Mr.
Horace Lee Gowins of Tampa passed away Monday, February 13, 2012.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 18, 2012, at 2:00
p.m. at Abundant Life Non-denominational Church, 4125 West Nassau
Street, with Pastor Karen Barnes officiating. Interment will take place
Monday, February 20, 2012, in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell,
Florida.
Mr. Horace Lee Gowins was born September 5, 1946 in Williston, Florida
to Clarence Emanuel Gowins and Ethel Lee Sims Gowins, both of whom
preceded him in death. After completing his high school education, he
joined the United States Air Force, for whom he traveled the world,
retiring as a master Sergeant after twenty-four years of service.
Horace was a man of strong family values and would stop at nothing to
provide for his wife, Carolyn, and sons, Carl and Corey. He loved to
hunt and fish, and proved to be a hard worker. He was a faithful member
of the Abundant Life Non-denominational Church, and was loved and
respected by the entire church family. More important than church
affiliation was the fact that he was a believer in Jesus Christ. He was
a lover of family and friends, an astute business man, a wise counselor,
and the list goes on.
Horace leaves to celebrate his legacy: Carolyn, his devoted wife of 42
years; sons, Carl and Corey; grandchildren, Keosha, Jacques and Cari;
sisters, Louvenia Tillman, Rosetta Barnes, Ethel Mae Scott, Claretha
Frazier; brothers, Larry Gowins and William “Jabeo” Johnson (Patricia);
sisters-in-law, Helen Gowins and Lula Mae Gowins; best friend, Walter
Clare; fishing buddies, Alfred Black, Otis Harris and Tony Harris; and a
host of other relatives and friends.
The remains will repose from 6-8 p. m. Friday, February 17, 2012, at
Abundant Life Non-denominational Church.
