Celebration of life services for Mrs. Willie Mae Wright who received her wings on October 31, 2019 will be conducted Saturday, November 9, at 11:00 a.m. at Victory A.M.E. Church (formerly St. James A.M.E. Church of Progress Village), 5202 S. 86th St., with Rev. Michael B. Price Pastor and Eulogist and Rev. James D. Sykes officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 11005 N. US Highway 301, Thonotosassa, FL.
Mrs. Willie Mae Wright was a native of Clearwater, FL born to the late Samuel and Emma Lou (Snell ) Grant. She received her early Christian teachings and training from Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church and graduated from Pinellas High School.
Later she and her husband the late Daniel Lee Wright moved their family to Tampa, FL where she has been a resident of Progress Village for 52 years. She joined St. James A.M.E. Church, (now known as Victory A.M.E.) where she once served as Sunday School Superintendent, Y.P.D. Director and Trustee. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Society and The Women’s Auxiliary, but was especially proud of serving as the Grief and Flower Coordinator until her health failed.
Although her first love was always nursing, she was employed as a paraprofessional by Hillsborough County Public Schools where she took joy and pride in working with exceptional behavioral students at Mendez, Dowdell and Hillsborough County Jail.
She was preceded in death by: parents, Samuel “Sonny Man” and Emma Lou (Snell) Grant; husband, Daniel Lee Wright; siblings, Fannie Solomon, Ronnie Grant, Samuel Grant, Jr., Brownie Mae Miller, Marvel Mosely, and Chestine Wyman.
She leaves to cherish her memory: 2 sons: Anthony Filer and Vaughn Akins; 3 daughters, Vernelda Filer-Jones, Cecelia Albritton and Dannette Flowers (Vincent) of Tampa, FL; 8 grandchildren, CeMar Raines, CeRon Raines (Donnicka), Lucy Filer- Olds (Marcellus), RoJaughn Z. Jones, Sr., ToNae Filer, Anthony Filer, Jr. (Christal), DaVincio L. Flowers, and DaVinaye L. Flowers; 15 great grandchildren, CeRhiya, Armani, Cemar’re, Jahkari, Aaliyah, Andreina, Celeyah, AnaLucia, Maricella, Marcell, Anthony III, CeRon, Jr, King, Cameron and RoJaughn, Jr; 2 sisters, Gloria M. Harmon (Archie), and Terry F. Spencer; 1 brother, Marshall L. Mosely, of Pensacola, FL; 1 sister-in-law, Helen Wright of Orangebend, FL; 1 brother-in-law, Theodore Wright of Orlando, FL; Like a son, Todd Grant; Godsister, Gail Mayweather; Goddaughter, Mamie Thompson; special Godson, Billi Geter; good friends, Louvenia Caldwell (Jesse), Mildred Hanna, Lela Mae Walton, Betty Green, Tom Saffore, and Bettye King, Ethel Cole, and Louise George; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, The Grants, Snells, Lesters, Pattons, Hamptons, Spencers, Harmons, Solomons, Shaws, Mosleys, Bradleys, Caldwells, Filers, Albrittons. Akins, Wrights, Clark, Debose, Wisons, Rays, Glovers, Walkers, Upshaws, Faysons, Reids, Parkers, Palmers, and Mitchells. Special Acknowledgement and thanks to: Angie, Mario, Maria, Michelean, Idana, Tina, Daisy, Janet and Annicka for your optimum care and love shown to our mother during her stay at Ybor Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
The Visitation will be held Friday, November 8 and the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Victory A.M.E. Church, 5202 S. 86th St., Tampa, FL 33619 (Progress Village).
