Allison Lewis Sr. Obituary

Mr. Allison L. Lewis Sr. passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022, 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church of Port Tampa, 7221 S. Sherrill Street, Tampa FL 33616 with Elder C. Reaves, Officiating. Interment to follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. MASK RECOMMENDED.

Mr. Lewis was born on July 25, 1938, and reared in Port Tampa FL. He graduated from Middleton High School “Class of 1956” and played baseball with the Original Port Tampa Red Caps. He was then drafted into the Army and became a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne out of Fort Bragg, N.C. While still in the military, he married Betty in December of 1962. He joined St Mark Missionary Baptist Church in 1946.

After returning home, he adopted the name of, “Port Tampa Mayor of our Community”. He became a part of everyone’s business, always ready to help anyone with any problem. If he did not know the answer, he wouldnt stop until it was solved. He truly believed he was an “Official” when everyone called him “Mayor”. He joined the “Old Timers Club”, with a group of fellows his age, which he enjoyed. He was employed by Gulf Oil Company for 29 years, then worked with a newspaper, Vertis Printing Company and returned back to driving with the Florida Rock Oil Company and later retired.

He was preceded in death in death by: his parents, Roy Lewis and Elizabeth Roberts; daughters, Carla D. Lewis, and Karla Ellis; sister, Bernie Jean Willoughby; aunts, uncles and cousins.

He leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted and loving wife of 59 and a half years, Betty Lewis; son, Allison L. Lewis, Jr. (Ariel); grandchildren, Shayla Fong Sam (Garry), Shanice Cox, Alnesha Lewis, Alison Lewis, Tremaine Ellis, Kylar Ellis, Allan Lewis, Amari Fields, Ja’Keyla Ross, and Alvaski Lewis; great grands, Johnny Harrold III, Cristian Harrold, and Dante Fong Sam; brothers, Lester Lewis (Pauline) and George Lewis (April); god daughters, Tenetia and Zenobia; and a host of loving cousins, friends and church family.

The visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 1, 2022, at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.  MASK RECOMMENDED.
