Archester Newsome Obituary

The Homegoing Graveside service for Mr. Archester “Chester” Newsome, Sr. who passed away on Monday, July 6, 2020, will be held on Saturday July 25th, at 2 p.m. at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4207 E. Lake Avenue, with Archbishop David A. Jones, Sr., Pastor of Mountain Top International Ministries, Inc. officiating.  Interment will follow.  Please follow the CDC guidelines. Masks are required.

Archester Newsome was born in Quitman, Georgia to his parents, Norris and Minnie Lee (Jones) Newsome. He was a graduate of Union Academy High School, Bartow, FL. Mr. Newsome retired after many years of dedicated service from Florida Steel.  After his retirement, he operated his own business at the Funland Flea Market.  “Chester”, affectionately called by most family members, and “Archie” by others, loved the Lord.

He was a member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church where he sang with the choir. He later joined Mount Olive M.B. Church and was a faithful member until he took ill.

He was preceded in death by: his parents and sons, Greggory Wallace and Joseph Wallace.

Archie leaves to mourn and cherish his memories: his devoted and loving wife, Carol Newsome; two sons, A. Stephen (Monique) Newsome of Virginia, and Olyn Reecha Newsome; two daughters, Shasta Yolanda Newsome and Charlotte Cecelia Wallace of Tampa, FL; brother, Eugene Newsome of Sanford, FL; three sisters, Annie Ruth Newsome, Margaret Newsome Dowdell and Betty Newsome of Rochester, NY; aunt Bessie (Lewis) Manning; uncle, James (Mary) Lewis of Valdosta GA; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, dear friends, his Flea Market Buddies, Colleagues and many health care professionals who cared for him during his illness. He has left a big void in our hearts.

The visitation will be held from 3 - 7 p.m. on Friday, July 24th, at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 North Howard Ave.  We are asking family and friends to follow the CDC guidelines. Masks are required.  On Saturday, July 25th the family will line up at the Newsome residence at 1 p.m., then proceed to Garden of Memories Cemetery.
