Catherine McFadden, “Cathy”, as she was known, was a woman of great faith and unselfishly dedicated her time and talents to family, church, and community. She had a magical way of bringing out the best in others.
Cathy was born on February 19, 1941 in Brooklyn, New York to Hattie Beaufort-Spencer and Ozell Spencer. She dedicated her life to children, working in public schools and volunteering for organizations that improved the lives of children. Cathy loved to mentor children of all ages. She was extremely popular with her students, motivating them to perform to the best of their abilities while infusing them with an appetite for learning.
Cathy was a graduate of the High School of Fashion Industries in New York City. She was blessed with abundant grace and style and possessed an exquisite eye for fashion and art. Cathy also loved to travel the world and experience new cultures, especially with her daughter Parette. She was a gifted baker who often learned new recipes during her travels. Her scrumptious desserts were always sought after by friends and family.
Cathy found joy in the simple pleasures: a beautiful blend of tea, fine chocolate, a great novel or fashion magazine, her favorite jazz artist, or a good conversation. Most of all, she relished spending time with her loved ones.
Throughout her life, Cathy touched the minds and hearts of many people. She will be remembered for her generous and loving spirit, especially her knack for surprising family and friends with personal gifts, cards and heartfelt letters on her favorite blue stationery. She always ended these notes with her signature goodbye.
Because I care,
Cathy
