David Carswell

Mr. David Isaiah Carswell, 72, of Tampa entered rest on Tuesday, April 20th, 2021. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday May 1st at 12:00 Noon at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610 with Pastor Cedric Carswell, officiating.  Interment will follow.  Please follow the CDC guidelines.  Masks are required.   

Mr. David Isaiah Carswell was the 6th of 18 kids, born to the late Eddie Lee Carswell Sr. and Gertrude Carswell. He was a native of Cross and Green, Georgia where he attended Swainsboro High School. Beyond his time in his native state of Georgia, Mr. Carswell worked for the Port of Tampa as a Long Shoreman for 15 years.

As an entrepreneur, he owned and operated an entertainment lounge and managed rental properties.  David would later relocate to Cincinnati where he worked as a leather craftsman for a few years. In 1993, he permanently set his roots in the city of Tampa to be closer to his family.

He leaves to cherish his memory:  his wife, JoAnn Thornton Carswell; three daughters, Shunda Carswell, Belinda Carswell (son-in law-Willie Chaney ), and Autumn Carswell; two sons, Freddie Nesmith (daughter-in-law Katherine Nesmith) and David I. Carswell; Seventeen grandchildren, Tatiyana, Travontae, Tavaris, Timnisha, Derenzo, Timothy, Christian, Davionna, David, Quadranique, Lamia, Josiah, Monique, Fredzeik, Jahvon, Destiny, Braylon, and Kison; three sisters, Alfredia Levine, Gertrude Delois Phillips (Wilbert), and Elizabeth Carswell-Braswell; sister-in law; Charlotte Carswell; Seven brothers, Robert Lee Carswell (Linda), Roger Lee Carswell (Rebecca), Elijah Carswell, Samuel Carswell, Randy Carswell, Jimmy Carswell, and Alfonzia Carswell; a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and beloved friends.

 David was preceded in death by: his loving Father and Mother; his 7 siblings, Annie Daisy, Otis, Willie James, Eddie Jean, Willie Albert, Ellis, and Eddie Lee Carswell Jr. 

The remains will repose from 4 – 7 p.m. Friday, April 30th at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606. We are asking family and friends to please follow the CDC Guidelines.  Masks are required.  To send flowers to David’s family, please visit our floral store.
