Mrs. Dorothye M. Jones Baker of Tampa, Florida passed away Sunday, April 4, 2021. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Tabernacle of Praise at Tampa Bay, 9505 E. Fowler Avenue, Thonotosassa, FL 33592 with Bishop James Higgins, officiating. Interment will be held Monday, April 12 at 11 a.m. at the Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513. Please follow the CDC Guidelines. Masks are required.
Mrs. Dorothye M. Jones Baker was a native of Tallahassee, Florida and a resident of Tampa for over 40 years. She attended Griffin Elementary school (1st - 8th grade) and was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Class of 1967. She continued her education and was a graduate of Florida A. & M. University.
As a child, Mrs. Baker was a member of Saint Mary Primitive Baptist Church and later joined Tabernacle of Praise at Tampa Bay. She was employed as an Educator for over 30 years with the School District of Hillsborough County, where she taught Home Economics.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie “Poe Boy” Jones and Bernice “Doll” Robinson; husband, George Baker, Jr.; brothers, Leonard Graham Jr., Nathaniel Hunter and Ira Joe Hunter; brothers-in-law, Bobby Brown, and Eric Harvey, Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two loving children, Briana Baker and George Baker III (Adrianna Vickers); grandson, Azizi Palmer; sisters, Rosa Williams (Edward), Bernice Brown, Ethel Harvey, Patricia Lee (Rev. Solomon Lee), Malinda Graham of Tallahassee, FL, and Clara Graham of Gainesville, FL; a host of nieces and nephews; aunt, Mary Sanders; close friends and family, David Gay, Juanita Cook, Susan Perry, Ann Gibson, Mildred Alexandra, Paula Hadley Cummings, Sylvia Abner, Brenda Adams, Thelma Jefferson, Maxine McClendon, Emma Ruth Allen, Carlton Lofton and Emma Thomas; and a host of other relatives to include: the Robinsons, Jones, Griffin, Wyche, Stafford, Belton and Gay families.
The visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. Friday, April 9 at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606. We are asking family and friends to please follow the CDC Guidelines. Masks are required.
