Fred Johnson, Jr. Obituary

Deacon Fred Johnson of Wimauma, Florida passed away Sunday, May 24, 2020.  A Celebration of Life service will be conducted Saturday, June 6 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, 5910 Vel Street with Reverend Eddie Starling, Pastor, officiating.  Interment will follow in Wimauma Community Cemetery. 

Mr. Fred Johnson was born in Tampa, Florida to Mr. Fred and Eva Johnson.  He attended public school at Old Sun City, Bethune and East Bay High School. After graduating, Deacon Johnson followed his passion of becoming a truck driver for over 40 years.  Because of his love of trucking, Deacon Johnson was able to give abundantly to his community, and mentor young truckers in the community. 

He accepted Christ as his Savior at a young age and was a faithful servant of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church for many years. He was also a member of the Young Men Progressive Lodge #689 and was installed as a Deacon under the leadership of Reverend James W. Berrien. 

Deacon Johnson was preceded in death by: his father, Fred Johnson Sr.; his mother, Sister Eva Johnson; sister, Yvonne Deloris Johnson; and nephew, Tamburi Johnson. 

He leaves behind to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 32 years, Deaconess Rita Johnson; daughters, Selina Smith of Tulsa Ok, and Allene Fristad (Justin) of Riverview, FL; son, Charlie Morgan of Wimauma, FL; Grandchildren, Jivontae Morgan, Vincent Green, Promise Morgan, Isaiah Green, Arrelious Morgan, Jelina Smith, Jayla Smith, and Justin Fristad Jr.; Great-Grandchildren, Jaliyah Morgan and Janiah Morgan; sister, Shirley Rice (Robert) of Palmetto, FL; brother, Gary Slate of Wimauma, FL; sisters-in-laws, Karen Campbell of Ft. Meade, FL, and Margaret Williams of Ft. Meade, FL; brothers-in-law; Charles Campbell (Maurice) of Ft. Meade FL; special caring nephew, Christopher Johnson of Tampa FL; niece, Sonja Jones-Gay (Herman); Goddaughter, Jalissa Levins of Tampa, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Special Thanks to Henry Porter, Dontae Porter, Horace Porter, Alex Berrien, Kendrick Johnson, Deacon Robert Berrien and Inell Berrien.

The remains will repose from 4-7pm, Friday, June 5, at Mount Moriah M. B. Church. We are asking family and friends to follow the CDC guidelines.
