Reverend George Baker, Jr. of Tampa passed away Friday, August 28, 2020. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 5, at 11:00 a.m. at Tabernacle of Praise, 9505 E. Fowler Avenue, Thonotosassa, FL with Bishop James Higgins, officiating. Interment will be held Tuesday, September 8 at 11:00 a.m. in Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513. Please follow the CDC guidelines. Masks are required.
Mr. George Baker, Jr. was a native of Miami, FL and a resident of Tampa for 65 years. He was a graduate of Howard W. Blake High School, Class of 1971 and furthered his education with Grambling State University. He served in the United States Navy until his Honorable discharge. Mr. Baker began a second career as a Customer Service Assistant with Hillsborough County Solid Waste.
Reverend Baker was a member of Tabernacle of Praise, Thonotosassa, FL.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Dorothye Baker; two children, Briana Baker and George Baker III; sisters-in-law, Rosa Williams, Bernice Brown, Ethel Harvey, Patricia Lee (Rev. Solman Lee), Malinda Graham of Tallahassee, FL, and Clara Graham of Gainesville, FL; cousins, Wanda Griffin of Ft. Worth, TX, Earl Griffin and Thomas Griffin of Portland, OR, Rick White, Wanda White and Cindy White of Columbus, GA, Shirley Mitchell, Carolyn Stafford, Jackie Stafford, Robert Stafford, Angela Brooks of Tampa, FL, Adrianna Vickers, Gloria Young (Raymond) of Plant City, FL, Sylvia Darby, Oscar Belton Jr., Shirley Chatham (Freddie), Helen Simmons (Willie) of Tampa, FL, Ronnie Belton (Tonya) of Atlanta, GA; friends for life, Carlton Lofton, Willie Graham, Sammie Smith of Tampa, FL and Kenny Juniors of Maryland; a host of nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, Ralph Millan and family and Miguel Milan and Family.
The remains will repose from 3-7 p.m., Friday, September 4, at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue. We are asking family and friends to follow the CDC guidelines. Masks are required.
