Howard Johnson Obituary

Mr. Howard Johnson of Tampa, Fl, passed away quietly at his home on Tuesday, April 19, 2022. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.

Howard was the third child born to Frank and Alzena Johnson.  He was a native of Tampa and grew up in Ybor City.  He was educated in the Hillsborough County School System attending Meacham and Booker T. Washington Schools. 

While employed with Eastern Airlines, he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  Upon completion of his military service, he returned to Tampa and worked as a construction laborer.

Howard was an independent, fun, loving and hardworking individual.  He was very family oriented.  He loved his family, life-time companion, Mildred Wright, her children and his five nephews.

Howard was preceded in death by his father, Frank Johnson; his mother, Alzena Gyden Johnson; sister, Mary Helen Johnson Kemp; his lifelong companion, Mildred Wright; brothers, Charlie Frank Johnson, Paul Johnson and Willie A. Johnson, Sr.

Cherishing his memory and celebrating his life are his nephews, Willie A. Johnson, Jr. (Caridad), Robert Walker (Retha), Charlie Frank Johnson, Jr. (Joanne), Henry Kemp (Christine), and Frank Kemp (Michelle); stepchildren, Ronald Swinson, Elizabeth Harris, Gloria Fryer, Izeal Holton and Veronica Lawrence and a host of other relatives and friends who loved and cared for him.
