Josephine Townsend

Mrs. Josephine Townsend of Tampa, Florida passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021.  Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 East Hanna Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610 with Elder Robert Jones, officiating.  Interment will follow. 

Mrs. Townsend was a native of Ocala, FL and a resident of Tampa for 60++ years.  She was educated and graduated from Dunbar High School in Fort Myers Florida, undergraduate of Tuskegee University, and a graduate of the University of Tampa where she received her Master’s Degree in Education.  She was a member of Christ Gospel Church, Inc., National Council of Negro Women, Gamma Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Stonecroft New Tampa Women Connection.  She retired as a school teacher.

She was preceded in death by: her loving husband, Walter James Townsend; darling daughter, Electa Davis; parents,  Mr. and Mrs. David Hampton; three brothers, and three sisters.

 She leaves cherished memories with:  her daughter, Andrea Craddock (Kenneth); son, Willie Frank Dempsey Jr. (Monique); grandchildren, Adrian Williams, Eric Davis Jr. (Rachel), Willie Frank Dempsey III, Austin Williams (Angelica), Al-Andrae Grady Williams, Sherisse Glen (Terrence) and a devoted assemblage of great grands, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13 at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL.  MASKS ARE REQUIRED.
