Mae Johnson-Cooper Obituary

Ms. Mae Lissa Johnson-Cooper of Brandon passed away Monday, October 19, 2020.  Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 31 at 2:00 p.m. at Cathedral of Faith, 6304 N. 30th Street with Pastor Earnest Lowe, Jr., officiating.  Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery, 11005 N. US Hwy 301, Thonotosassa, FL 33592.  Please follow the CDC guidelines.  Masks are required. 

Ms. Mae Lissa Johnson-Cooper was a native of Tampa, Florida and a resident of the Seffner/Brandon Communities.  She was educated in the public schools of Hillsborough County and was a graduate of Plant City High School. 

She enlisted into the United States Air Force earning the rank MSGT/E7.  While serving her country, Mae also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management.  She retired after completing 20 years of faithful service.  Mae Lissa  began her second career with Bausch and Lomb Pharmaceuticals Company retiring after 20 years of dedicated service. 

Mae Lissa was a faithful member of New Berean Baptist Church, Brandon, FL under the leadership of Pastor Earnest Lowe, Jr. where she served fervently until her health began to fail.  Mae Lissa became a surrogate mother to 3 great nieces, Da’Kayla Brown, Toshayla Hall and Quatayla Hall, whom she loved dearly.  Mae Lissa was also a caregiver to her mother.  She accomplished and achieved so much in her life and always put God first. 

She was preceded in death by: her father, Governor Johnson; and her husband, Johnnie Francis “Frank” Cooper. 

She leaves to cherish her memory: stepdaughter, Jasmine Cooper; mother, Erma Wylie, Columbus, GA; three loving sisters, Yvonne Johnson, Brandon, FL, Erma Jean Johnson, Columbus, GA, and Debra Ervin (Andre), Corbett, VA; three loving brothers, Tommy Kenner (Beverly), Tampa, FL, Alton Kenner and Hugh Jeff Wylie (Esmirna), both of Brandon, FL; uncle, Joe Johnson (Gloria), Atlanta, GA; aunt, Alice Johns, Thonotosassa, FL, mother-in-law, Mother Evelyn Cooper, Seffner, FL; father-in-law, Arthur Jackson (Yolanda), Vero Beach, FL; two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Reed, Tampa, FL and Gail Cooper, Valrico, FL; special friends, Angel Ellis, Philadelphia, PA, Eddie Huff (Pat), Macon Larry (Shelly), both of Seffner, FL and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, many sorrowing relatives and friends. 

The visitation will be held, Friday, October 30, from 3 – 7 p.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Ave, Tampa, FL 33607.  We are asking family and friends to follow the CDC guidelines. Masks are required.
