Mother Mary Alfred Dunbar of Tampa passed away Sunday, February16, 2020. Her Celebration of Life Service will be conducted, Saturday, February 29 at 11a.m. at College Hill Church of God In Christ, 6414 N. 30th Street, Supt. Charles Davis, Pastor with Elder Darnell Peeler, officiating; Supt. Dr. Clovis Dunbar, Eulogist. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mother Mary Alfred Dunbar was born in Douglas, Georgia, a twin and the youngest of 14 children. Her spiritual journey began at College Hill COGIC, under the leadership of Bishop W.E. Davis. Mother Dunbar was educated in the Hillsborough County Public School System and held a position as Social Worker at Model Cities. Mother Dunbar served faithfully as Church Mother at Faith Temple COGIC and The Refreshing Spirit.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Dan and Mamie Alfred; husband, William Dunbar Sr.; siblings, Lettie, Mamie, Martha, Minnie, Georgia, Monroe, George, James, Preston, Mathis, Clovis, Dan and CL; and son, William Dunbar, Jr.
Mother Dunbar leaves behind: a brother-in-law, John Bagley; two sisters-in-law, Bobbie Bagley and Dorothy Alfred of Queens N.Y.; and in God’s hands to continue her legacy of love and faith, she leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted children, sons, Supt. Dr. Clovis Dunbar (Lois) and Phillip Dunbar; daughters, Pastor Sheila Williams, Josephine Singletary (Supt. Jadie), Gail Timmons and Mary Dunbar Crumity (Roderic); 28 grandchildren, Courtney DeBoise, Adam Dunbar, Jessie Hall, Yancey Dunbar, William Dunbar III, Natzice Dunbar, Tracy Buckley, Phillip Anderson, Sheila Bates, Lawrence C. Williams, Joanna R. Williams, Maria Saulsby, Terrance Timmons, Mark Timmons, Michael Timmons, Solomon Timmons, Timothy Timmons, Earnest Moore, Amelia Blue, Nadia Glover, Lanay Dunbar, William Dunbar, Joshua Dunbar, Josephine Crumity, Zoya Crumity, Roderic Crumity, Jolisa Aultry and Terrance Dunbar; over 50 great-grandchildren, and a host of great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, church families and friends.
The remains will repose after 5 p.m. Friday, February 28 at Ray William Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue.
