Miss. Alexis Shanay Ausberry-Johnson Obituary

On the morning of Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the age of 27, Alexis Ausberry-Johnson was called home by her Heavenly Father.

Born on December 17, 1997, in Galveston, Texas, Alexis brought joy and light to the lives of everyone around her. Raised in a loving, faith-filled household, Alexis’s vibrant personality left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Her infectious smile, boundless energy, and sense of humor made her a joy to be around. She had a dynamic presence both in person and online, where she delighted many with her exceptional dance moves and uplifting spirit.

Alexis was a proud member of Compton Memorial Church of God in Christ in Galveston, TX, under the leadership of Pastor Woodard. She attended services faithfully with her beloved grandmother, who played a pivotal role in her spiritual upbringing. The love of God was deeply rooted in her, and her faith guided her throughout her life.

She was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend. Alexis touched lives with her creativity, humor, and compassionate heart. Her joy was contagious, and her laughter filled every room she entered.

Growing up in a military family, Alexis had the opportunity to live in various states including Texas, Virginia, California, South Carolina, and Florida. Each place helped shape the remarkable woman she became.

Alexis’s educational journey was as impressive as her personality. She attended LA Morgan and Mainland Preparatory in Texas, where she began her praise dance ministry. In Virginia, she attended charter school and developed a love for track. She also earned a black belt in martial arts and played six different instruments in the marching band. A talented athlete, Alexis, played softball, basketball, and other sports. She was also a gifted writer—her poetry was so impactful that it was published while she was living in California. Her talent extended to acting, and she even appeared in a Welch’s commercial.

During high school in South Carolina, her track coach, Ms. Singleton, became a second mother figure to her. After Ms. Singleton's passing, Alexis found strength in scripture, especially in Psalm 23, Psalm 34, and Psalm 91, which became her favorite Bible passages.

Alexis graduated from East Bay High School with an impressive 5.2 GPA. She went on to attend Hillsborough Community College (HCC) for a year before transferring to the University of South Florida. There, she earned her bachelor's degree in Health Science and later completed a Master’s degree in Exercise Science. Alexis was also on the waiting list for the Ph.D. program in Exercise Science and was actively taking courses toward her Ph.D. in Health Science.

While pursuing her academic goals, Alexis worked at Applebee’s and Chipotle to help fund her education. She took two to three classes per semester, demonstrating unwavering commitment and resilience. She was a natural leader who built trust easily and had the rare ability to connect with people on a deep, personal level.

Her personal mission was to help build a sustainable and unified world through transformation—both personal and communal. That mission continues to live on through the many lives she touched.

Alexis was an active member of Love First Christian Center, led by Senior Pastors Jomo and Charmaine Cousins. She loved her church family deeply and built meaningful connections with people from all walks of life and cultures, both in person and through social media.

A devoted sports fan, Alexis loved track and field, the Dallas Cowboys, OKC Thunder, the Oklahoma Sooners football team, and the Oklahoma softball team. In her free time, she enjoyed entertaining others through games, singing, karaoke, running, journaling, drawing, and of course, dancing. Alexis also loved decorating her home’s island for special occasions like birthdays, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day—always bringing joy to her family in the most thoughtful ways.

Alexis is survived by her mother, Lakesha of Riverview, FL; father, Jerome of Riverview, FL; grandmother, Ms. Graves; Great Auntie, Nancy; beloved sisters, DuJour, Ki-Jana, Te'a, Danielle, and Jakayla; brother, John Jr., other father, John Sr.; uncles, Calvin (Tanji), Robert Scurry, Robert Jr. and Joey (Athena); aunties, Elisa, Elaine, Janice (Dan), Kelly B, Lisa P, and Judy (Percy); cousins whom she considered as sisters,  DeAsia, Jaylin and Briana; Six nieces, two nephews and her cousin Justin whom she considered a brother; cousins Robyne, Rosalyn and Robert B. all from Chicago. Last but not least Prince, her beloved dog of 6 years and a host of other relatives, co-workers, and friends who will forever cherish Alexis.
