Mr. Mitchell Harris affectionately known as “Uncle Son” was a native of Seminole County, Georgia and a resident of Tampa for over 50 years.  Mitchell Harris was born to the late Arnold Harris and the late Henrietta Koonce.

He was a humble servant of God and accepted CHRIST at an early age.  He joined New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully for over 50 years, until his health began to fail (just recently).  He served on the Deacon’s Board and with the Sunday school.

Mitchell was joined in Holy Matrimony to the former late Ovida Dennard Harris.  To their union, two children were adopted. Mitchell was employed with Florida Steel for over 50 years until his retirement. Deacon Harris was a faithful servant in his community, New Friendship, and other surrounding churches.

He was devoted to his family and though he did not have children of his own, he was in integral part of the lives of his many nieces and nephews.  They could rely on “Uncle Son” to be present for weddings, graduation ceremonies and other special events in their lives.

Though he had some physical limitations in the last few months of his life, “Uncle Son” remained fiercely independent, socially active and enthusiastic about life.  He will be dearly missed by his family and those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by: his brothers, nephews and sisters-in-law.

Left to cherish his memories are two adopted children, Roy Allen (Billy) and LaShawn Allen; adopted grandchildren, Reko Allen, LaShawnequa McGee, Lenise Jones, Keyona Griffin, Taj Allen, Jordan Manson, Christian Allen, and  Tailyn Allen; sisters-in-law, Louise Dennard, Inez Green, and Myrtice Harris of Brinson, GA; God Son, Keith Daniels; nieces, Mary Green, Patricia Faulk, Mildred Russell (Rico), Althea Wimbley, Barbara Wimbley-Wright (Calvin), Michelle Peterson, Casanthia Mingo (Willie), Delores Henry (Stanley) of Jakin, GA, Janet Peterson (Victor) of Augusta, GA and Barbara Wimbley (late Elbert Jr.); nephews, Ronnie Wimbley, Richard Wimbley, Thomas Starkes, Michael Dennard, Deacon John Harris Sr. (Rochonda) of Brinson, GA and Henry Harris Jr. (Mary) of Augusta, GA and George Jr. of Miami FL (a devoted nephew); devoted friends, Bro.
