Mr. Albert Rice

Homegoing services for the Retired SFC Albert James Rice, who passed away on May 11, 2023, will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 9:00am at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606, with Rev. Thomas Hadde, Eulogist, Pastor Carolyn Riggins, Officiating.  MASK RECOMMENDED.

Albert was born on March 23, 1950 to the late James Oscar Rice, Sr. and Nettie Fay James in Tampa, FL.  He attended Hillsborough County Public Schools and graduated from Howard W. Blake High School where he was a member of the Yellow Jackets Marching Band.  After graduating he enlisted in the Unted States Army where he made a career in Basic Training to Drill Sergeant and ROTC Instructor.  After retiring from the United States Army, he became a MGA with Liberty Insurance Company.  After retiring from Liberty, he opened Al’s Diner in West Tampa.

Albert was preceded in death by: his father, James Oscar Rice; son, Albert James Rice, II; grandparents, Andrew and Fannie Lee James; sisters, Debra Rice Owens, Sherrell Rice Simmons and Fannie Mae James, brother, Farmer White; aunts, Dorothy James, Helen James Jones, Marjorie James, Betty Lou James Stanley; uncles, Andrew “AJ” James, Robert Lee James, Melvine “Pete” and Willie B. James.

Albert is survived by his daughters, LaTonya Rice and Brittany Morris (Justina); grandchildren, Andra D. Wright, II, Charvanette Bellamy (Antonio), Tyree Bellamy, Armara, Amiyah and Audrey Morris; great grandchildren, Dionta James, Zyla Brown, Antonio “AJ” Williams, Jr., and Andra D. Wright, II; brothers, Nelson James, Tony Rice, TENN, James Oscar Rice, Jr., (Bobbi), John Rice, Ray Rice (Patricia), Lorenzo Simmons and Jeffrey White (Angie); aunts, Juanita McCloud and Cassandra James; uncles, Talmadge James, Wilson James and Nathaniel James; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, Waffle House crew on Lumsden in Brandon.

A public visitation will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023, 4:00 – 7:00pm at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel.
