Mr. Alphonso Fells of Tampa, FL, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Olive AME Church, 1902 W. LaSalle Street, Tampa, FL 33607, with Reverend Jay Jackson Officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610.
Alphonso Fells was a native of Tampa, FL, raised in the West Tampa Community by his loving mother alongside his siblings. He graduated in the Class of 1974 from Leto High School. Alphonso worked numerous jobs, including Lawn Care Service, HVAC, and Castellano Grocery Store.
Alphonso was preceded in death by: his brother, Joseph T. Fells; grandmothers, Louisa Hemmingway Norton and Irene Lang; grandfather, Elijah Hemmingway; aunts, Leola Graham, Luvenia Dortch, Maggie Kiner, Mamie Lyons, Lottie Hemmingway, European Lang, Margaret Lang, Ann Joyce Hemmingway, and Rosa Lee Hemingway; uncles, Lovett Hemmingway, Archie Hemmingway, Joseph T. Lyons, Roland Fells, Homer J. Hemmingway, Harrell Lang, and Samuel Hemingway Sr.; and sister-in-law, Valetta Fells.
He leaves to cherish his fondest memories: his loving daughter, Angela Fells; grandchildren, Kiana, Kaitlyn, Keishon, and Ky’Rheana; great-grandchildren, Samuel, Sa’Niyah, Si’Yani, and mother, Bernice Hemmingway Fells; father, Alfred Fells, Sr.; loving and caring siblings, Alfred Fells, Jr., David L. Fells, Sheryl Jackson (Alexander Sr.), Gloria Davis, and Mamie Fells; nephews, Alexander Jr. (Latonya), Maurice (Yolanda), Richard (LaQuella), Theodore Fells, and Joseph Sanders; nieces, Valencia Fells and Latecia; great nephews, Lil Alex, Rick, Reco, Maurice, Maurice “Taboo”, Alex “Budda”, Ahmad, Lil Larry, and Siah; great nieces, Latoya Alexis, Ri’Kiya, Ri’Leigh, and Tequila; devoted cousins like sister/brother, Sandra Haynes (Ernest) and Samuel Hemingway Jr. (Lois); loving cousins, Shantel Hemmingway-Lawton, Veda Simmons (Melvin), Erika Smith (Jermaine), TeAnna Hemingway, Rona Roberts-Pryer, Donna Monroe, and Patricia Morrison; friends, The Bailey, Wingo, Russell, Golden, Hill, Robert, Roseboro, Burkette, Jackson, Watt, Kelly Families, Nancy and many other families, including the West Tampa Community, Javaris Carter; and a host of extended family including, The Hemmingway’s, Fells, Lang’s, Graham’s, Everhart’s, Thomas, Norton’s, Bettye Dixon, Barrington’s, Williams, and Jackson’s.
