Mr. Arthur "Bubba" Mims Jr. Obituary

Arthur Mims Jr., affectionately known as “Bubba” was the eldest child born on April 5th, 1952, in Tampa, Florida to Celestine Roberts and Arthur Mims Sr., who preceded him in death. Bubba was the oldest grandchild to his maternal grandparents, the late Willie Jackson Sr and Gladys Jackson.

Bubba spent his early years attending Catholic school in Tampa, Florida, and continuing his education through college in Wildwood, New Jersey. He was extremely brilliant, receiving multiple scholarships for his academic and athletic excellence. He loved all sports, specifically basketball and football. Bubba received many accolades and tributes for his incredible sports ability.

Bubba relocated to Maywood, Illinois in the late 1970s to be reunited with his father and stepmom, the late Betty Ruth Mims. Upon his arrival, he began his career as a Commercial Painter. He gained employment with Chicago Painters Union where he worked for over 15 years. He painted tons of buildings, including the John Hancock building in the Chicagoland area. In November 1984, he welcomed a son, Arthur Mims III.

In July 1989, Bubba married Denise Jenkins. To this union, Dominique was born. Bubba was keen on fixing things, playing dominoes, listening to the O’Jays, and playing card games like Bid Whist. Bubba moved back to Tampa, Florida in August 2020. He rejoined church at St. Luke AME. He enjoyed spending time with family, going to the casino and watching sports until his health began to decline.

Bubba peacefully surrendered to the Lord on November 24th, 2024. He leaves to cherish his fond memories to his loving daughter, Dominique, two sons; Arthur III (Gabriela) and Vernon, 3 grandchildren; Alyssa, Arthur IV, and Edward; one brother, Michael (Jackie), six sisters, Frances, Viola, Gloria, Wanda, Rose and Mary Ann, who preceded him in death, numerous stepsiblings, a host of cousins, the entire Jackson family of Tampa, Florida, the Johnson, Mims, Miller and Long family, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many friends. Bubba leaves to cherish a special devoted, caring cousin, Charlene Parker of Tampa, Florida
