Mr. Bernard Rawls Jr. Obituary

It is with deep respect, love, and gratitude that we celebrate the remarkable life and enduring legacy of Bernard Rawls, Jr., who passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025.  A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606, with Pastor Donald Lott, Officiating.

Bernard Rawls, Jr. was born on November 24, 1948, in Tampa, Florida, to Bernard Rawls, Sr. and Mary Byrd Rawls. Bernard lived a full and meaningful life marked by dedication, service, and steadfast integrity.

A proud graduate of Howard W. Blake High School, Bernard began an extraordinary career in law enforcement with the St. Petersburg Police Department (SPPD), where he faithfully served for thirty years. During his distinguished service, he held numerous roles, including SWAT Team Member, Detective, Recruiter, and Honor Guard, each of which reflected his courage, professionalism, and commitment to excellence.

Following his retirement from the SPPD, Bernard continued his lifelong commitment to public service as a Sheriff’s Deputy with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), where he served for another ten years with honor and distinction. His decades of dedicated service left an indelible impact on his colleagues, community, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard Rawls Sr. and Mary Byrd Rawls.

Bernard will be remembered for his unwavering faith, deep sense of duty, and the kindness he extended to others. His life was a living example of service, humility, and love. Though his earthly journey has ended, his legacy will continue to shine brightly through the countless lives he touched and the generations who follow in his footsteps.

Beyond the badge, Bernard’s most tremendous pride was his family. He was a devoted and loving father whose strength, compassion, and quiet wisdom guided his children and inspired all who crossed his path.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his three beloved children, Bernard L. Rawls (Jamillah), Cherita E. Rawls, and Ryan R. Rawls; grandchildren, Bernard L. Rawls IV, Cortez H. Rawls, and Cameron G. Rawls; sister, Gladys Baker (Steve); and a host of cousins, extended family, dear friends, and colleagues who knew and served with him.

A life dedicated to service is a life well lived.”

The family will receive family and friends on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 10:00 a.m.– 11:00 a.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
