Mr. Billy Dix of Tampa, FL, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2026. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, 2504 Chipco Street, Tampa, FL 33605, Dr. Bartholomew Banks Sr., Pastor, with Reverend David Jones Sr., Officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories, 4207 E. Lake Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610.
Bill Dix was born in Hartford, AL and grew up in Panama City, FL. He was a resident of Tampa for 51 years. He attended Rosenwald Senior High School in Panama City and graduated in the Class of 1963. He continued his education at Florida A&M University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology in 1971.
Bill, a faithful servant of God, was a member of St John Progressive Missionary Baptist Church for 46 years. During this time, Bill was actively involved in the Men’s Choir and Male Ushers.
He was employed by the State of Florida Auditor General as an Investigator and later by the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation as a Security Officer. After retiring from the city, he worked as a local Insurance Agent for many years. He also spent 19 years working at Home Depot before retiring permanently in 2020.
He leaves: his cherished wife of 51 years, Sharon Dix; his daughter and son, Donna and Derrick Dix; his 4 sisters, Bertha (Kate) Gilkey, Betty Lightfoot, Deborah Pierce (Louis), and Kathy Cooper (David); and a bonus family member, Emma Dawson (Darrel); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and close friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
