Mr. Damien Lavaughn Barber Obituary

Mr. Damien LaVaughn Barber of Tampa, FL, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at St. John Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, 2504 Chipco Street, Tampa, FL 33605. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610.

Damien LaVaughn Barber was born on August 1, 1971, in Tampa, Florida, to the late Ulysees Moore Jr. and Antonia Barber. He departed this journey on June 14, 2025. Damien was a product of West Tampa and Clair Mel City areas. He graduated from Brandon High School in 1989. He worked for Coca-Cola Enterprises as a Warehouseman and Forklift Operator for over twenty-five years and was last employed with National Gypsum Inc., preceding his recent illness and subsequent disability. Perhaps you knew him from Gorrie Elementary, Wilson Middle School, Brandon High School, Tampa Spartans Little League Football, or you knew him from the neighborhood or if you worked with him, you knew he was that guy who always had a big smile and could brighten your day with a joke.

Damien never met a stranger as he was friendly and always seeking to rescue some lost soul. He was a true friend and would be there when you needed him. All you had to do was call. He was a man of few words, but he loved life. We come to celebrate the life and legacy of a gentle giant as he was passionate about his family, children, and friends.

He was preceded in death by: his Father, Ulysees Moore Jr.; his Grandparents, Henry C. Barber and Bessie M. Barber; and a host of descendants of the Benjamin and Hannah Allen family.

Damien leaves to remember him with fond memories, his wife Tonika Plair Barber; Bonus children, Korey Miller Jr. and Kourtney Miller; Mother-in-law, Mershell (Shirley) Godbolt; and a host of other in-laws; To continue his legacy, he leaves his sons, Marquise Barber, DeQuon Barber, and Gavin Snipes; Daughters, DeKierra Barber, Khaliah Anglin and Khiarah Anglin; Grandkids, Zaire Barber, Myla Barber, and Zinovia Barber; A loving and caring family, Mother Antonia Barber; Sisters, Belinthia Berry, and Bianca Berry; Cousins, Doris Kemp and Gerard Burney; Dedicated friends, Elaine Brewster, Mark Sherman and Marquita Snipes-Morgan; Gma, Rosalie N. Jones; Grandmother, Bonnie Barber; Aunts, Kim Williams (Terrance), Thracey Wilson (Bill), Flynn Butler (Bubba), and Timeka Singletary; Uncle, Dahlgren Hawkins; The Allen Family (descendants of Benjamin and Hannah Allen); a host of cousins; Many friends who knew him were close to his heart such as Marcus Burr, Morris Miller and Leon Chandler.
