Obituary

Mr. Damon Davis III of Tampa, FL gained his heavenly wings on Monday, August 14, 2023. The Homegoing Service honoring his life and legacy will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at College Hill Church of God in Christ, 6414 North 30th Street, Tampa, FL 33610, Pastor Charles Davis; Clarence M. Nathan, Officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610.

Mr. Damon “Woosey” Davis III affectionately known as “D” of Tampa, Florida, was born on April 15, 1965, in Cleveland, Mississippi to the late Damon Davis Jr. and late Princella Robinson. Damon accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age and remained steadfast in his faith. He moved to Tampa at the age of 5 and attended Hillsborough County Public Schools where he graduated from Brandon High School in 1983 and furthered his education at Southern Technical College obtaining his HVAC certification in May 2023.

Damon was hard working and a dedicated employee at HART as a Bus Operator for over 22 years. He was also employed with the Hillsborough County Public School system for over 8 years. Damon loved ALL sports but excelled at basketball and because of his passion for sports, Damon became an admired youth sports coach and a great mentor. He coached Pop Warner football and basketball leagues resulting in several of his coached players succeeding in the NFL. Damon was also a loyal fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and enjoyed listening to music and spending time with those he loved most family and close friends. Damon will be truly missed by his family, friends, co-workers, and the community!

Damon was preceded in death by: his sisters, Jackualin Davis, Shirley Davis, and Sandra Davis.

Damon leaves to cherish his precious memory: his loving and devoted wife, Ellen “El” Davis; his son, Bryant “BJ” (Gwenn) Davis; his sisters, Shiwonda Houston, of Cleveland, Mississippi, and Kathryn Davis; brother, Tim Davis; loving aunts and uncles, Doris, Davis, Phoebe White, Pauline Richardson, Elmer Robinson, Linda Robinson, Pastor Powell, and Gloria Powell; Sister-in-laws who loved him like a brother, Gigi Johnson, and Tandra (Micah) Jackson; very close friends who loved him like a brother, Rick (Felicia) Gurley, Chris (Tammy) Warren, Marion “Rocky” (Shwanda) Wells, Alvin (Shontae) Hill, and Tom (Shain) McIntire; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and co-workers. 

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 25, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
