Mr. David George Denson, Jr. a beloved brother, father, uncle, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the age of 76. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, 2:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606 with Elder Anthony D. House, Sr., Officiating, and Pastor Al House, Sr., Eulogist.
Mr. David George Denson, Jr. was a native of Tampa, FL, and a resident of Tampa for 76 years. Mr. Denson was born on July 15, 1948, in Tampa (Hillsborough County), FL to the late Mrs. Della Mae Anderson and the late Mr. David Denson, Sr. He received his formal education from Hillsborough County Public Schools, and he frequently attended church with his beloved sister, Constance D. Brown, at The Holiness Church of Jesus in Unity (Tampa, FL) where Pastor Al House, Sr. serves as Senior Pastor. For numerous years, Mr. Denson worked for the Tampa Housing Authority in their public safety department and for the Tampa Fire Rescue Department. He also worked as a grant writer and private investigator for Attorney Ricky Williams and a host of other attorneys. Mr. Denson was also known for his advocacy work in the community, including with the Lee Davis Neighborhood Services Center, Tampa Bay Black Nurses Association, Corporation to Develop Communities of Tampa, Inc. – Men to Boys Program, and the Weed and Seed – Up with Hope and Down with Dope Program, and a host of other community organizations in the Greater Tampa Bay area.
Mr. Denson's love, laughter, and kindness will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. He will forever be remembered for his community activism in the Greater Tampa Bay area. His legacy will never be forgotten. He will always be known for his signature navy blue suits with sky blue shirts and his famous “Tampa Fire Rescue” hat.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Mr. David Denson, Sr.; his mother, Mrs. Della M. Anderson; his sisters, Mrs. Linda M. Butler-Baker, Ms. Brulah Mae Williams, and Ms. Magnolia Mincy; and his brother, Mr. Thurman Zemberiah Butler.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his sons, LaVoisier Denson of Gainesville, FL, David George Denson, III (Shacondra) of Tallahassee, FL, Decardios Denson of Houston, TX, David J. Denson and Shannon Denson of Tampa, FL; and his daughter, Temmira Nicholson of Tampa, FL; his grandsons, Cameron Denson, JerQuante “Peanut” Denson, Kamaun “KD” Denson, and Daylen Denson; his granddaughters, LaSiyah “Toot” Denson, Jordan Denson, and Brooklyn Denson; his sister, Constance D. Brown (Leroy) of Tampa, FL; his brother, Nathaniel Butler, Sr. (Martha) of Tampa, FL; nephew who was raised as a brother, Mikel Jones (Rosa) of Tampa, FL; niece who was raised as a sister, Charlene Davis of Tampa, FL; his nieces, Sylvia Grier (Jerome), Tanya Williams (Roy), and Doris Williams (Terry); his nephews, Henry Adkins, Jr., Alfonso D. Strong (Angela), Zemberiah C. Strong (Erica), Sharnell D. Strong, Sr. (Johnise), Herbert Williams, Jr., Nathaniel Butler, Jr., and Darrell Turner; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and relatives.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
