Mr. Edward Thompson

Mr. Edward Donald Thompson of Tampa, FL passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, 4:30 p.m. at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606 with Pastor Donald Lott, Officiating.

Edward Thompson was born on July 23rd, 1951, in Harlem, NY to Mr. and Mrs. Edward and Ernestine Thompson. He was the oldest of 5 children. He resided in Staten Island, NY for 32 years before he and his wife Sandra Thompson moved to Tampa, Florida in 2003. 

Edward was a NYC Firefighter for 25 years before retiring from Ladder Company 80 in Staten Island, NY. For many years he worked in the department alongside his cousin, Michael Jacobs, and his brother, Kevin Thompson. His retired badge number went to his first grandson Lawrence Michael White who is a member of Firehouse 283 in Brooklyn, NY. While retired, he volunteered to help clean up the aftermath of 9/11 in 2001. Unfortunately, he developed cancer due to the toxic dust exposure from the terrorist attacks. He was an avid golfer, skier, and outdoorsman who loved life. He enjoyed cooking, loved seafood, and making his family smile with his sense of humor.  

He was preceded in death by: his sister, Denise Thompson.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 53 years, Sandra Thompson; children, Tania Samuel of Leland NC, Edward D Thompson Jr. of Brandon, FL, Daviece Thompson of Staten Island, NY, Ronisha Thompson of Tampa, FL, and Shauntae Alexander of Harlem, NY; brothers, Kevin Thompson, Darrell Thompson, and Stevie Thompson; son-in-law, Antonio Samuel; grandchildren, Lawrence White, Preston White, Nadia Samuel, Demitri Gillard, Aneesa Lucas, Marcala Williams, Marquise Williams, Ezra Williams, Jared Williams, Kiahna Thompson, Kobe Thompson, Alexa Thompson, Aliyah Thompson, Shaun Alexander, and Tristan Alexander; great-grandchildren, Angela White, Emanuel Curry, Lawrence White, Jr,  Michael White,  Adaiya Gillard, and Adonis Gillard; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
