Mr. Edward Charles Thornton departed this life on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023, 2:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610.
Edward Charles Thornton, born on June 30, 1950, in Tampa, Hillsborough County Florida to the late Columbus and Willie Mae Thornton. He was educated in the public schools of Hillsborough County and received various certifications and degrees as a Mechanic and continued as a long distance (18-wheeler) truck. He retired from the city of Tampa and continued as a mechanic until his health began to decline. He was a bright ray of sunshine throughout the community to his family and friends as, "Rev."
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Columbus and Willie Mae Thornton; brothers, Nathaniel Thornton, Alfonso A. Thornton Sr., and Kenneth J. Thornton; and sisters, Arletha Thornton, Delores A. Demerson, and Valarie Thornton-Wilson.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his four sons, Gregory Charles Thornton, Reginald Thornton, Charles Edward Thornton, and Justin Thornton; one daughter, Isis Thornton; two sisters, Ollie Lee Thornton of Tampa and Maxine Hearns, spouse; brother, James P. Thorton of Tampa; three nieces, Debrynna Garrett, Brenda Allen, and Tangela Rogers; nephews, Alfonso Thornton Jr., Kedric L Garrett, Phillip C. Garrett, Leonard C. Garrett Jr., Gregory Garrett, Clarence Allen, Corey Thornton, Matthew C. Thornton, Tyrone Thornton, Andre' Tyrone Williams, Willie Williams, Darryl Williams, Desmond Thornton, Jarvis Thornton, Donald Daniels, Adrian Peterson, and Kevin Peterson; and a host of additional family and close friends.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
