Mr. Eugene Gainer, Sr. was born April 16, 1950, to John Wesley Gainer and Edna Gainer in Lake City, FL. He was the fourth of ten children. Educated in Hillsborough County, he received his diploma from Plant City High School and attended Bethune Cookman College. He was a certified electrical engineer and served six years in the United States Air Force.
Mr. Gainer married Debra Thomas in 1974, and their family consisted of three children. Mr. Gainer lived in Plant City (Bealsville) most of his life and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Around 2017, he moved to Lake City, FL, where he was a New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church member.
His career included employment as a correctional officer for the Polk County Sheriff's Department and a park attendant for Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation Department in the Bealsville Community and surrounding areas. In addition to serving the community, he loved the Lord and was a faithful member of the church choir. Eugene was also known throughout the community for his barbeque. He will be remembered for his love of God and family.
Mr. Gainer departed this life surrounded by his family in Augusta, Ga just after midnight on Christmas Eve.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley and Edna Gainer; brother, Lee Andrew Gainer and sister, Martha Jewel Gainer Sykes; and three nieces, Lisa Evans, Talanya Singleton and Bianca Gainer.
He leaves to cherish his memories: one daughter TeKarri Gainer-Burley (Bobby); two sons, Eugene Gainer Jr (Jessica) and Glenn Williams (Karen, deceased); three sisters, Elizabeth Hill, Patricia Gainer and Angela Clark; four brothers, David Gainer, Jerry Gainer (Acelia), Timothy Gainer (Mary), and Reginald Gainer (Teresa); nine grandchildren, Dustyn Gainer, John Gainer, T’Kai Gainer, Major Gainer, Madison Gainer, Bobby Burley Jr., Glen Williams IV (Sarah), Dillon Williams, and Travis Holmes; two great-grandchildren, Oliver Williams and Cassian Williams, and a host of nieces, nephews, distant relatives, and sorrowing friends.
