Mr. Frank "Butch" Shellman, III Obituary

Mr. Frank “Butch” C. Shellman, III of Tampa, FL, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at New Bethel Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, 2914 E. North Bay Street, Tampa, FL 33610, with Rev. Reginald T. Webb, Officiating.  Interment will be on Monday, February 23, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513.

Mr. Frank “Butch” C. Shellman, III was born on May 7, 1947, and was a lifelong resident of Tampa, FL. He graduated from Howard W. Blake High School and served as a United States Army Veteran in the Vietnam War. After his military service, he embarked on a successful career in construction.

Frank “Butch”, affectionally known as “Coach” by his former youth players, left a profound legacy shaped by his dedicated leadership, athletic coaching, and mentorship with the West Tampa Boys and Girls Club Spartans football program.

Frank was a long-time member of Tyer Temple U.M.C and later rededicated his life to Christ at New Bethel Progressive Missionary Baptist Church of Tampa, FL.

Frank “Butch” C. Shellman, III  was preceded in death by: his father, Frank C. Shellman, Jr.; his son, Prentice Kino Shellman; brothers, Eddie Joseph “Eddie Joe” Shellman and Fredrick “Freddie” Shellman; grandparents, Frank C. Shellman, Sr. (Gustava “Gussie”) Williams- Shellman), Grant Martin Scruggs, and Lenora Scruggs; nephew, Eddie Joseph “Joe” Shellman, Jr.; aunts and uncles, Arthur C. Shellman, Frances Mae Shellman-Steward, Dr. Eddie Joseph Shellman, Robert and Lillian Gardner, Justina Legree and Joseph “Rudy” Correa; and bro-in-law, Ronald Williams.

He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted mother, Rosa Lee Shellman; children, Latashia Johnson, Demetra Shellman, Frank C. Shellman, IV (Dominique), and Astin Shellman; grandchildren, Temariq and Jordan, Quiara Lockwood (Shane), Phillip Jr., and Tahj, Brianna, Jorice, and Demetrius, Jade, Nykia, and Symia, and Aadyn; great-grands, Raia, Ramiah, Clariti, Brooklyn and Demetrius Jr.; sisters, Valerie Pearce, Cynthia Williams, and Michelle Granville (Ralph); nieces and nephews, Kimbler, Roland Williams (Emma), Kelvin and Melissa, Rhonda Johnson (Eric), Zena, Roxanne Norris (KC), Marc, Tomaco Irving (Charles), Toya Johnson (Christopher), Treva, Antonika, and Candace; aunts and uncles, Ethel Shellman Jones, Deborah Sherry (Charles), Denise Polk (Pastor, Ricky), Mary Mosley (Willie),Vaughn and Joseph Shellman, Ola Mae Correa, and George Steward; a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends, Kenny Buie and Mark Biellak.

 

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
