Mr. Jeffrey Yawn

Mr. Jeffrey Yawn of Ruskin, FL passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606 with Pastor Donald Lott, Officiating.

Jeffrey Yawn was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 8, 1958, to parents Emery and Corine Yawn, both deceased. He graduated from Cleveland East High School in 1977. He was Vice President of his senior class and starred on the Blue Bombers' wrestling team. He studied at Cleveland Case Western Reserve University, graduating with a Masters in Political Science.

 Shortly after graduation, Jeffrey moved to Tampa, Florida, the home state of his parents, and spent the remainder of his life, some 40 years, as a resident of the Sunshine State. For most of those years, he worked doing what he loved, educating the state's children. He taught at the South County Career Acceleration Academy in Ruskin, Florida for many years, retiring in June of 2022.  South County is one of 66 high schools in the Hillsborough County Public School District.

 Jeffrey was a professional and gifted educator with a dedication to the field and his students.

 He was a sports fanatic who loved the Cleveland, Ohio professional sports teams, especially the Cleveland Browns. He was active in the Tampa Bay Area Browns Fan Club and even had a pair of Cleveland Browns shoes. He was also an avid fan of The Ohio State University Buckeyes' basketball and football programs.

 Jeffrey was an unintentional and intentional comedian and would have friends and family often in stitches with his funny and whimsical jokes and antics. When he and his younger brother, Douglas, got together they were quite the comedy team. Sadly, Douglas, who lived not far from Jeffrey, passed away only several weeks before his older brother. 

Jeffrey was preceded in death by: his sisters, Margie, Phyllis, and Antoinette; and brothers, Adolphus, Anthony, and Douglas.

 He is survived by: his daughters, Jasmine Danielle Yawn and Chelsea Yawn; sons, Anthony Yawn, Jeffrey Yawn Jr., and Josh Yawn; grandchildren, Jewels Yawn, Moni Yawn, Kari Yawn, Mason Yawn, and Kaylani Luna Yawn; siblings, Cynthia McCord, Emery Yawn, and Larry Yawn as well as by a host of friends.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
