Mr. Jessie Edward Hill of Tampa, FL passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Exciting Central Tampa Baptist Church, 2923 N. Tampa Street, Tampa, FL 33602 with Pastor Zamore, Eulogist. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610.
Mr. Jessie Edward Hill was born September 9, 1949, in Abbeville, Alabama to the late Jessie and Ethel Hill. He enjoyed family life, music, traveling, and people. Some of his travels included: France, Germany, Monte Carlo, Austria, and many more. Jessie graduated from Blake High School, Class of 1968. While at Blake, he was a member of the football team and co-captain of the basketball team. He attended Hillsborough Community College and graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology in 1973. While at USF, Jessie was a member of the first pledge line of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity (Dirty Dozens), later becoming dean of pledgees for a subsequent line. His career was diverse including the Department of Corrections as a Probation Officer and Insurance Business.
His passion for the insurance business started with Allstate Insurance Company with a career including multiple insurance agencies, requiring him to relocate to Chicago, IL, and College Park, MD. In the late 80s, Jessie received an offer that would bring him back to Tampa as Sales Manager with Allstate until his retirement in 2003. While at Allstate, he managed some of the top agents in the State of Florida and throughout the Company. His excellence included earning the “Key Man” award-Top sales manager in the company each year of his employment. Additionally, receiving the “Inner Circle” award two times -granted to Top agents and Managers. His leadership skills propelled him to start his own Successful Insurance Company.
“Commitment” was the catalyst for his service in the community. He was co-chairman of the 25th Anniversary Super Bowl Task Force. Jessie along with a group of 12 individuals started the first integrated Gasparilla Krewe. “The Grand Krewe de LiBertalia” continues to be active today. The Krewe’s mission is one of charity and inclusion.
The Character of a man speaks volumes. Despite all of his accolades and accomplishments Jessie referred to himself as just “Bubba Hill’. His humility and compassion for people is a legacy that will never end. May Jessie rest in eternal peace
Jessie is preceded in death by: his father, Jessie Hill Sr.; mother, Ethel Hill; brothers, James C. Hill, Thomas C. Hill, James E. Hill, and Charles Hill; sisters, Georgia Allen, Betty Shelton, Patrice Hill, and Ruby Albury (Russell).
He leaves to cherish his memory and legacy to the following loved ones: his wife, Alicia Buckner Hill; father-in-law, Joe Buckner; sons, Archie McFadden (Subrina), and Joe Wallace; daughters, Maya Henderson (Kevin), and Erica Hill -Brandon; daughter of the heart, Mercy (Taraji); sisters, Merry Scott, and Darlene Slayton (Terry); a host of nephews including, Reginald Hill-Veroniya, Rolan Ware (Giselle), and Thomas Hill; and grandchildren, nieces, other relatives, and friends.
A Visitation will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
