Mr. John Henry Phelps, III

Mr. John Henry “Trey” Phelps III of Tampa, FL, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.  Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Hope of Shiloh Community Church, 3910 E. Conover Street, Tampa, FL 33610, with Elder Cornelius Moore, Officiating.  Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610.

Born on October 7, 1989, in Tampa, Florida, John Henry “Trey” Phelps III was the beloved son of Debbie Phelps and John Henry Phelps Jr. From an early age, Trey possessed a vibrant spirit, a contagious smile, and a compassionate heart that left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. He had a remarkable gift for making others feel seen, valued and loved.

Trey was a proud graduate of Tampa Bay Technical High School, Class of 2008, where he proudly served as co-captain of the school’s step team.  After graduation, he attended Clark Atlanta University, where he became a member of Da Major Infiltration (DMI) in Fall 2011 and remained a cherished member of SwaGG Affiliate Family.

Driven by a passion for serving others, Trey dedicated his life to uplifting those around him.  In January 2013, he began his career with Bagley Youth Development, where he served as a social worker and mentor, helping to guide and inspire countless young people.  He later joined Home Depot, where his leadership, dedication, and exceptional work ethic earned him the role of the Online Contact Center Supervisor. In February 2026, he was promoted to Specialty Operations Supervisor, a position that reflected the respect, admiration, and trust he earned throughout his career.

Trey’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and unwavering encouragement. He had an incredible ability to light up every room he entered. He was a source of strength, wisdom, laughter, and comfort to his family, friends, coworkers, and everyone fortunate enough to know him. His genuine spirit and selfless heart touched countless lives, leaving behind memories that will be cherished forever.

Trey was preceded in death by: his brother, Ismeal Phelps; his grandparents, Rosa Hooks, John Henry Phelps Sr., Oradee Patterson and Nathan Hampton; his great-grandparents, Margaret Damon, Rosie Dale Tolbert and Julius White; uncle, Nathan Hampton Jr.; aunt, Carla Mitchell; his Godmother, Yolanda Russ; and many other beloved family members who welcomed him into eternal rest.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory: his loving parents, Debbie Phelps and John Phelps Jr.; his beloved siblings, Shawn Hooks (Crystal), Calvina Patterson, and Kuvawn Phelps (Katricia); his beloved nephews, Kevauri Phelps and Karmello Phelps; his cherished nieces, K’ Brielle Phelps, Niyah Kelly, and Kamiyah Phelps; his beloved Goddaughter, Noelle Morrison; and his cherished God siblings, who held a special place in his heart.  He is also survived by his loving aunts, Dorothy Damon, Yvonne Lawrence, Doris Jacobs (Rexy), Angela Tolbert, Sonia Tolbert, Shelia Thomas, and Theresa Gilyard Laboard; his uncles, Willie Damon (Gwen), Tony Hampton (Marquita), Jason Hampton (Monique) and John Davis; along with a host of cousins, and extended family members, coworkers, and dear friends, including Shi Medley, Brandon Fulton, Shanika Thomas, Juan Harris, Byron Morrison, Gary Moore, Emani Williams, and  Markesia Alexamder, whose lives were forever enriched by his love, friendship, and unwavering support.

Although our hearts are filled with sorrow, we celebrate a life that was lived with purpose, compassion, faith and unconditional love. Trey leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.  His laughter, wisdom, and generous spirit will forever remain in our hearts.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610.
