It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Leroy Mitchell, affectionately known as “Wheel,” age 88, of Tampa, Florida. He departed this life peacefully on July 23, 2025. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, 9:00 a.m. at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610.
Mr. Leroy Mitchell was born on February 1, 1937, in Tallahassee, Florida, to the late Henry and Mary Mitchell. Leroy lived a long and honorable life marked by dignity, discipline, and unwavering devotion to his family. Leroy was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Patricia Mitchell. Together, they shared a faithful and loving partnership built on mutual respect and deep affection. A hardworking and dedicated provider, Leroy was a proud member of the Laborers’ International Union of North America, with over 50 years of service. He will be fondly remembered for his integrity, strength, grace, and timeless sense of style.
In his later years, Leroy found great joy in spending time with his young great-grandson, Alvaski Lewis. Their bond was filled with love, laughter, and purpose. Leroy was intentional in sharing wisdom, structure, and life lessons, leaving a legacy that will live on through Alvaski.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Henry and Mary Mitchell; his beloved children, LeRoy Mitchell, Jr., and Erma Jean Jacobs; his siblings, Eddie Lee “Mickey” Knight, Nathaniel Miller, and Thomas McDaniels; and his grandchild, Connetra “Coco” Mitchell.
He is survived by: his loving wife, Pat Mitchell; his children, Lee Frank Wilkerson and Sabrina Mitchell Richmond (Gregory Pernell); his grandchildren, Kundre Mitchell, Jaquawn Anthony, Kioni Mitchell, Karea Anthony, Bernadine Mitchell, DJ Richmond, LaToya Wilkerson, Leara Wilkerson, Leangelo Wilkerson, Lil Lee, Tiara Wilkerson, and Marion Wilkerson; his great-grandson, Alvaski Lewis; his sister, Hattie Mae Butler; his nieces and nephews, Belverlie Langston, Minsy Truman, Debra and John Ingraham, Erica and Lucky Smith, Candice Mendez, Trequan Davis, Izhoni Keel, Thomas and Sheila Smith, William Duke Smith, and Jamie Nortori; and special friends, Mary and Marvin Graham, and Ms. Silvia.
