Mr. Louis Maynard Brown was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on May 1, 1943, to the late Vivian Johnson Fields and the late Louis Brown. He was the stepson of the late James Robert Fields, Jr. Louis departed this life on May 3, 2025, in Empath Hospice Care at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida. His wife, the late Joyce Brown, and his sister, the late Sandra Singleton, preceded him in death.
He was baptized in his early years at Central Baptist Church under the late Reverend Gerald Hamilton.
Louis received his formal education from the Charleston County Public Schools System and graduated from Burke High School in 1961. He received his Undergraduate Degree from the University of the District of Columbia in Washington, D.C. in May 1985 with a degree in Business Administration.
Louis enlisted in the United States Army in October 1961. During his tour of duty, he was awarded Letters of Appreciation for outstanding performance. After fulfilling the Army Reserve obligation, he received an honorable discharge in August 1965. Louis is a Vietnam War Veteran.
On November 10, 1966, Louis joined in holy matrimony to Joyce Ann Mills.
Louis’s last employment was at the Association of American Railroads in Washington, D.C. He retired with 15 years of service as a Senior System Programmer who facilitated and performed the installation, testing, and debugging of complex and high-level computer system software.
Louis and Joyce resided in many areas of Washington, D.C., and Silver Spring, Maryland, before moving back to Tampa, Florida, in November 2011 to assist in caring for Joyce’s parents before their death.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories his sister: Marva Singleton (Alphonso) of Charleston, South Carolina; uncle: Bernard Martin of Charleston, South Carolina; aunt: Sally Brown (Jackie) of Boydton, Virginia; nieces: Latonyia Mikell (Jamal) of San Antonio, Texas and Stacey Whitfield (Keith Sr.) of Elgin, South Carolina; grand-nephew and grand-niece: Mikell Everett and Mecca Mikell of San Antonio Texas; great-grand-nephew and great-grand-niece: Keith “KJ” Whitfield, Jr. and Kamille Whitfield of Elgin, South Carolina; great-great-grand-nephew and great-great-grand-niece: Zyaire Everett and Leilani Everett of San Antonio, Texas; special nephew: Victor “JJ” Mills (Keelie) of Tampa, Florida and a host of other family members and friends.
