Mr. Rodney Bernard Hunter

Rodney Bernard Hunter departed this life on Thursday, July 30, 2026. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606, with Pastor Sylvester Banks Jr., Officiating.  Interment will be on Monday, August 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513.

Rodney Bernard Hunter was born on March 1, 1968, in Tampa, FL, to Cal and Marian Hunter and was the oldest of three children.

Rodney was educated at Therrell High School in Atlanta, GA.  After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1987 until 2008.  During his enlistment, he held the position of Chief Petty Officer E8.  He was employed at Fort Belvoir for many years.

He met and married his loving wife, Zina F. Walton, on February 15, 2013. They shared 13 lovely years together.

He is preceded in death by: his mother, Marian Hunter; brother, Cal Hunter Jr.; and grandparents, James and Lula Hunter of Tampa, Florida and Warren and Rose Freeman of Iron City, Georgia.

He leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted wife, Zinz F. Hunter; his children, Lexus Powell of Atlanta, GA and Rodney Hunter Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; stepchildren, Joshua Snow, Lawanda Carver, Latorcia Snow, and Darrius Duffy; his father, Cal Hunter Sr. of Atlanta, GA; mother-in law, Mary Wilkerson of Atlanta, GA; sister, Katrina Roberts of Atlanta, GA; aunts, Harriet Fennell (Larry) of Donalsonville, GA, Yvonne Freeman, Mary Lizzie Freeman, Shirley Kimble, Ruth Smith, Renee Hunter, Anna Lundy (James), and Ruby Gonzalez (Arturo) all of Tampa, FL, Dezzie Henry Smith of Pembroke Pines, FL, Marie Hayes and Gloria Hunter both of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Evelyn Robinson (Luther) of Thomasville, GA; uncles, Raymond Freeman (Linda), and John Hunter (Jackie) both of Tampa, FL; in-laws, Valerie Jackson (Reginald), Charles Walton, and Roderick Fulton (Shaquanta); two grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
