Mr. Samuel Joseph (Sam) Warren of Tampa, Florida passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023. A Visitation will be held on Friday, August 25, 2023, 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., A Celebration of Life will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, 301 N. Howard Ave., Tampa, FL 33606 with Pastor Donald Lott, Officiating. Interment will take place on Monday, August 28, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 S.W. 102nd Ave, Bushnell, FL 33513.
Mr. Samuel Joseph Warren was a native of Tampa. His family relocated to Tallahassee, Florida where he attended FAMU High School. Upon graduation, he attended Florida A. & M. University where he was a member of the Marching 100. After leaving FAMU, Sam entered into the Air Force Division of the Military. He later moved back to Tampa as a member of the Air Force Reserve. It was upon his return to Tampa that Sam met and married Matilda Dixon Warren, his wife of 19 years. Sam was a member of St. John Progressive M.B. Church, Rev. Bartholomew Banks, pastor.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Clytie Mae Byrd, and Samuel Joseph Warren Sr.; and son, Demetrius James Warren.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Matilda Dixon Warren; grandson, Jaylen Warren; great grandchildren, Jaylen D. Warren, Jr., and Jamari Demetrius Warren; bonus son, Armand Overstreet; brother-in-law, David Burgess; niece, Ashley Burgess Laster (Corey); nephew, DiMarco Burgess (Amanda); great nephews, Blake Ballard, and Phoenix Laster; cousins, Wilbur Jackson, and The Miller, Burgess, Kinsey, Glymph, and Courtney Families; special friends, Henry Jones, Greg Harvin (Beverly), Preston Floyd (Linda), Sheila Mayes, Rawn Hornsby (Sadie), the Donaldson, Watkins, and Housley Families, the St. John Progressive MB Church family, Firefighters’ Union 747, Fire Station #3 of St. Petersburg, FL, Woodland Neighborhood, the BLF Family, Andre Hardy, and The American Veteran’s Post #4. Sam will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
