Theodore Allen was born the seventh of eleven children to the union of William Allen, Sr. and Mamie Holt Allen on January 9, 1932. Mr. Allen matriculated through the Hillsborough County Public School System, graduating from Don Thompson Vocational High School. During his high school years, he was very well-known and highly respected as an outstanding basketball player. Upon completing his high school education, he joined the United States Army. After completing his military duties, he returned to Tampa and rededicated his life to Christ in his family’s church, Tyer Temple United Methodist Church, where he remained until his transition.
As a man and entrepreneur, he had a mind of business at a very early age. He avidly traveled the country during his occupation as a long-distance Truck Driver. After having worked for various companies, he became an Instructor and Tutor for young aspiring Truck Drivers. After many years of dedicated services, he retired from the trucking industry. Not being one to be idle or procrastinate, he immediately opened the next chapter of his life. He gained employment at Tampa International Airport. In addition to working at the airport, he opened and managed several local restaurants in the West Tampa area, along with the renowned “40th Street Club”. Being trained by his father, Ted also served as a Journeyman in a plethora of trades throughout his life. Though short in stature, he had a giant’s heart…he never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, William Allen, Sr., and Mamie Holt Allen; two sisters; and seven brothers.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his daughter, Gale Hall; son, Charles Langston III; four grandsons, Len Vernon, Derwin Verwin, Gregory Peterson, and Charles Langston IV; two dedicated and devoted siblings, sister, Dr. Margaret A.
