Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at Rivers of Life Church Ministries, 301 Lakewood Drive, Brandon, FL 33510, with Minister Keith Demming officiating. Interment will follow in Hillsboro Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 2323 W. Brandon Boulevard, Brandon, FL 33511.
Tommy L. Johnson was a man who led with love, lived with purpose, and left an imprint on every life he touched. Born on April 2, 1954, in Montgomery, Alabama, he was raised with strong values of faith, family, and perseverance by loving parents Ollie and Jimmie Johnson. He was a proud native of Koenton, Alabama, during his early years and a beloved resident of Tampa, Florida, for about 60 years.
Tommy pursued higher education with dedication. He first earned an Associate of Arts degree from Hillsborough Community College before attending the University of South Florida, where he earned his B.A. in Business Administration. His natural leadership, determination, and professionalism guided him to a successful career as an Executive Account Manager at Procter & Gamble, where he worked for 25 years until his retirement in 2009.
Beyond his professional success, Tommy had a lifelong passion for sports. He dedicated 35 years to the Tampa West Coast Officials Association, where he not only served with excellence but was also inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2022—a testament to his integrity, sportsmanship, and love for the game. Tommy’s greatest calling, however, was loving and serving others. He was a man of deep faith and an active member of Rivers of Life Church Ministries, where he served faithfully in the Usher Security Ministry. He led not only by word, but by example—always present, always dependable, and always kind.
Family was everything to Tommy. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, a joyful grandfather, and a constant source of wisdom and strength — not only to his extended Riley Mitchell family, but to so many who met him. His love extended beyond his immediate family to a broad network of friends, neighbors, and loved ones. He believed in education, in mentorship, in political awareness, and in “showing up”—again and again, for those he loved. For Tommy, family went far beyond blood; he gave his heart freely and fully to countless friends who became family in spirit. He was never more than a phone call away, and his presence was often the comfort or encouragement someone needed most.
Tommy is preceded in death by: his biological mother, Ollie Johnson; his adoptive father, Jimmie Johnson; his biological father, Judge Jackson; his sister, Diane Gray; his brother, Jimmie Johnson Jr.; and his precious granddaughter, Tamryn Lee.
Tommy is survived by: his loving wife of 46 years, Yvonne Johnson; his cherished daughters, Anesha Williams (son Tavaris Williams) and Ashanda Lee (son Terrance Lee); his adored grandchildren, Calvin Williams, Riley Williams, and Ashton Lee; his sisters, Bertha James and Callie Williams; his brother, Lorenzo Johnson; his beloved mother-in-law, Hattie Borders; and his “honorary mother,” Virgil Fitzpatrick; sisters-in-law, Lannice Smith (Michael) and Gwendolyn Crews(Willie); special friends Oscar and Carol Mayes, Annie Powell and a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends—many of whom he was so close to that he considered them his siblings—and all whose lives have been forever touched by his love, laughter, and wisdom.
His legacy is one of quiet strength, unwavering devotion, and boundless love. Though we feel his absence deeply, his spirit lives on in every life he helped shape, every lesson he passed down, and every memory he leaves behind.
The visitation will be held at Rivers of Life Church Ministries, 301 Lakewood Dr, Brandon, FL 33510, on Friday, June 20, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
