Mr. Veter Lorenzo Dixon Jr. of Tampa, FL passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at New Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2511 E. Columbus Drive, Tampa, FL 33605 with Rev. Larry Roundtree, Officiating.

Mr. Veter Lorenzo Dixon Jr. was born in Tampa, Florida on October 23, 1960. He attended Jefferson High School, where he played football, ran track, and played basketball. While playing basketball he played junior varsity to varsity. He was one of the leading scorers in basketball.

In 1999 Veter retired from the Sweet Bay Grocery Store. He was a proud owner of two businesses. On October 15, 2018, Veter and Vanessa became a Co-Owner and Team President of The Owensboro Thoroughbreds, formerly the Kentucky Thoroughbreds. The team is an American basketball team based in Owensboro Kentucky, and in the minor professional, The Basketball League (TBL). Veter and Vanessa would travel to Owensboro, KY for the games and for the Draft.

Veter loved to travel. He and Vanessa would be on the road every weekend going somewhere. It didn't matter when you called him on the weekend, he would be on the road going somewhere. Veter truly was a family man. He loved his family. There wasn't anything he wouldn't do for his children. Whenever they would call and needed something he was always there day or night for them. He loved his grandchildren. He was very happy when he was around his grandchildren. Veter and Vanessa traveled to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina to see his daughter and son-in law, they traveled to Fort Stewart, GA to spend time with them. He told his daughter and son-in law no matter where they were he would travel to spend time with them. He traveled twice to Atlanta, GA. Every year until Covid hit Veter and Vanessa was always traveling to California and Las Vegas for a two-week vacation. Before he got sick, he was planning on traveling to Canada.

He was preceded in death by: his loving daughter, Kimberly McCall Jones; mother, Jurusha Tyson; and his stepmother, Bobbie Jean Dixon.

Veter leaves to forever cherish fond and loving memories to: his fiancée, Vanessa Forte Adams; three beautiful daughters and one son, Kerrick Wright (Lakeesha, Wright), Vernetta. L Dixon (Lennox JR.), Daphne G. Dixon (Tornell Taylor Sr.), Desiree N. Dixon, and Pamela W. Dixon (mother of his children); sisters and brother, Deloris Hunters, Sheritta Flowers (David) Carlton Brown, Stacey Dixon, Anthony Dixon (Tiffany), Gerry Williams, Shawanda Dixon, and Skylar Dixon; grandchildren, Aryanah Duggan, Lennox Duggan lil, Tatiana McNish, Tornell Taylor Jr. Melanie Peoples, Tristan Taylor, Elijah Taylor, Ki’aisa Wright, Kimylah Wright and T’Liyah Wright; nieces and nephews, Danielle Flowers, Datiana Flowers, Anthony Dixon Jr., Antwuane Dixon, Joshua Dixon, Andrew Dixon, Christian Dixon, and Antwanette Knappe, Marlene Mitchell, Marlon Mitchell, Mishawna Stewart and Michael Stewart, and Peyton Woodard; dedicated loving aunts, Mamie Sims, and Barbara Edwards; and a host of  cousins and friends.

A visitation will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
