Mrs. Billie Jean passed away peacefully at home on August 24, 2025, surrounded by loved ones, at the age of 91. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
Billie Jean Williams, affectionately known as “Aunt Bill” and “Nana” was born Billie Jean Mobley, on September 17, 1933, in Panama City, Florida. She was the cherished daughter of Oliver Mobley and Carrie Hammons, both of whom preceded her in death.
From a young age, Billie Jean radiated warmth and generosity. She found joy in nurturing others, tending her garden, and sharing her love through cooking—gifts that defined her life and legacy. She attended school in Panama City and later married John Henry Williams Jr. (deceased), an airman in the United States Air Force. Together, they raised five children: Marquetta McNair, Marjorie “Margie” Johnson, Michelle McCaskill, Bruce Williams, and Monica “Nikki” Williams.
Billie Jean dedicated over four decades to her work as a cook, serving at military bases across the country. In 1982, she earned a Culinary Arts Certification from the Navy Special Services Administration, and throughout her career, she received several additional certifications recognizing her skills and accomplishments in food service and hospitality. She ultimately retired from MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, where her meals nourished not only bodies but hearts.
A woman of deep faith, Billie Jean was a devoted member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Port Tampa Church for over 30 years, she served her church family with grace and humility, eventually being ordained as a deaconess. Her presence was a source of strength and inspiration to many.
She was preceded in death by: her beloved parents, Oliver Mobley and Carrie Hammons; her devoted husband, John Henry Williams Jr.; her sisters, Elease Johnson, Essie Mae Spenser, Annie Lee Curry, and Mary Alice Phillips; her brothers, Sterling , Herman, Carlton, and John Lee Flowers; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Shane McNair Jr., Ariel McNair, Torah McNair, and Rashard Joseph Markese Graham.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience, cherished by: her five children, Marquetta McNair, Marjorie “Margie” Johnson, Michelle McCaskill, Bruce Williams, and Monica “Nikki” Williams; her sister, Cynthia Mobley- Howell; brothers, Dwight Mobley and Billy Don Mobley; thirteen grandchildren, Sean McNair, Shannon McNair, Shane McNair, Stacy McNair, Daniel Johnson, Zavion Johnson, Nyanna (Kyler) Dickerson, Tamica (Maxwell Sr.) McCray, Makita Graham, Johnna McNair, Cory McNair, India (Oranny) Nembhard, Ashley (Adrien) Butler, and Brittany Taggett; great-grandchildren; great great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Billie Jean’s life was a blessing, her memory a treasure. She was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
