Mrs. Dana Major Obituary

Dana Mashea Major (née Brown), 44, of Ruskin, Florida, was called home peacefully on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at the Center for Manifestation, 3102 E. Lake Avenue, Tampa, FL, 33610, with Elder Dwayne Peterkin, Officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories, 4207 E. Lake Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610.

A woman of remarkable strength, deep devotion, and boundless love, Dana leaves behind a legacy that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Though she faced Stage IV colon cancer with extraordinary courage, Dana was never defined by her illness. She will be lovingly remembered for the fullness of her life, the warmth of her love, and the unwavering way she showed up for those she held dear.

Dana was born on January 12, 1981, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Barbarette Kyles. She was raised in Detroit, Michigan, where she grew up surrounded by family as the middle sister of Johnetta Gibbs and Brittany Holman, becoming the woman so deeply loved and admired by all who knew her. Walter Holman also played a significant role in helping to raise Dana and shared in one of her most cherished moments by proudly walking her down the aisle on her wedding day. Dana was a devoted and loving mother to her children, William Deshawn Stephenson and Kamryn Mashea Ford, who were truly the pride and joy of her life.

In her later years, Dana made her home in Woodbridge, Virginia, where she formed deep and lasting friendships that she held close to her heart. She later settled in Ruskin, Florida, where family became the center of her life. On August 25, 2023, Dana was united in marriage with her beloved husband, Curtis Major. Through their union, she was lovingly embraced into the role of bonus mother to Celina Major and Curtis J. Major. As a devoted wife and mother, Dana loved her family fully and unconditionally, offering her care with humility and taking great pride in always being present for those she cherished.

Professionally, Dana dedicated 19 years of faithful service to LabCorp, where she was known for her integrity, reliability, and exceptional work ethic. In 2017, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management, an accomplishment she worked hard for and valued deeply. She took pride in providing for her family and remained committed through every season of life.

Dana was preceded in rest by loved ones who went before her and leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Curtis Major; her children, William Stephenson and Kamryn Ford; her bonus children, Celina Major and Curtis J. Major; her parents, Barbarette Kyles and Walter Holman (Velma Holman); her sisters, Johnetta Gibbs (James Gibbs) and Brittany Holman; her beloved cousins, Kris A. McGlothan Sr., Sharee Mahone (Tite Mahone), and Christina Brown; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and dear friends.

Dana’s life reflected a beautiful devotion to faith, love, and service. The legacy she leaves behind lives on in the hearts of those she cherished, the family she lovingly nurtured, and all whose lives were touched by her grace. Though no longer with us in body, she rests in the presence of the Lord and will be lovingly remembered always.
