Frankie Beatrice Dean was born on August 4,1935 in Donalsonville, Georgia to the late Abie and Effie Maples Davis. At an early age, Frankie relocated to Tampa, Florida. She was educated in Hillsborough County Public Schools. Frankie met and married George Gerald Dean, of Nassau, Bahamas, whom she affectionately called ‘Dean’. They set up their household and made St. James Episcopal in Central Park, on India Street, their church home. They were married over 26 years, before his demise. Born of this union were 6 children – 2 girls and 4 boys. After Dean’s passing, later in life, Frankie took on the responsibility of raising 3 of her grandchildren, surrounding them with love, guidance and instilling family values, as she had done with her own children. Frankie led by example, teaching her grandkids, what she taught her children – (1) Treat others as you would have them treat you, (2) It doesn’t cost a thing to say hello to anyone, (3) Always show empathy, as you never know what someone is going through in life.
Frankie believed in ‘giving someone their flowers while they could still appreciate them’. She worked as a Presser at Morris Fonte Cleaners, retiring after 29 years of dedicated service. Frankie’s greatest joy was the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Frankie enjoyed fishing, gardening and walking around the neighborhood, where she took the time to get acquainted with her neighbors. Frankie never met a stranger, as she always had a kind word for everyone and never met a baby she didn’t want to hold and love on. She was well loved and respected by her neighbors. Upon retiring, she enjoyed cruising and travelling extensively, while spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Frankie is survived by: her children, Annette Wilson, Eddie Dean (Lydia), Loretta Dean, George Dean Jr. (Karon), William Dean, and Errol Dean (Candace); grandchildren, Antonio Washington, Latrice Markinson (Joel), Katrina Andino (Joe), Corey Dean (Brandace), Christopher Green (Heather), Jasmyn Dean (Christian), and Jayla Dean; great-grandchildren, Jada Markinson, Jenna Markinson, Jodi Markinson, Jacob Green, Noah Bennett, Tristan Dean, Alexandria Andino and Abigail Andino; sister, Marion Macon (late James); sister-in-law, Helen Dean (late Joshua) of Nassau, Bahamas; brother-in-law, Roy Dean (Vivian) of Nassau, Bahamas; special nieces, Hollis Hobbs, Shanan “Kim” Hobbs, Doris Johnson, Sylvia Boronell, and Cheryl Cummings; loving caregivers, Doretha Johnson and Barbara Martin; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
