The Lord picked Gladys Marie Monroe, a beautiful flower of a Rose, for Himself on Wednesday morning, May 31, 2023. God looked around His garden and found an empty place. He lifted His arms around Gladys and gave her peace and rest. God’s garden must be beautiful; He always takes the best. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606 with Rev. Frank Watson, Pastor of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church of Carver City, Officiating. MASK RECOMMENDED.
Gladys was born August 19,1924 in Palatka Florida in Putman County to the proud parents of Ben and Lessie Mitchell (deceased). Gladys transitioned to Tampa and met the love of her life, Mr. Jesse (Baby Boy) Monroe, Manager of the singing Gospel Tornadoes in the early 60’s (deceased). They were married in the 50’s for 38 years. Gladys committed her life to Christ at an early age. She was a Faithful Servant of the Lord serving in the Senior #1 Choir and as a Dedicated Usher. Singing and serving was her job as a faithful member. She enjoyed preparing and serving the Sunday School class breakfast on 2nd Sundays for several years. She joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and served under Rev. Qvod Dexter and Deacon Copeland. until her present Pastor, Rev. Frank Watson, (Diane) of Sarasota, Fl. became the pastor. She was an active member of Carver City Senior Center group for many years.
Gladys was a Beautiful, Loving Kind, Gentle Spirited person. She was a Sassy and Classy, stylish dresser. Her ensemble was always well put together. She loved traveling, fishing, cooking, enjoying life, and spending time with her friends. Gladys loved preparing her favorite dish of speck fish and grits.
Gladys leaves her Fondest treasured devoted memories to: Rev. Nathaniel W. Love, her Godson, (Julia), Valrico, Fl. and Pastor of First Missionary Baptist Church of Seffner, FL.; Precious Memories to her lifelong friends, Deacon Charlie and Patricia Ball, Tampa, FL.; 2 stepdaughters, and their families, Maxine Fredericks (Carl), and Blendina Camel, Tampa, FL. The Karpay Family Parents, Rhoda, and Joel, to Bonnie, Lori, and Bevie, (The girls she raised).
