Mrs. Joanne Bass

Mrs. Joanne Alexander Bass of Tampa, FL passed away peacefully at the age of 81, on Saturday, September 6, 2025. Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 12, 2025,10:00 a.m. at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606 with Bishop Dr. Douglas Alexander Sr., Pastor of New Church Without Walls Int., Presiding.

Mrs. Bass was a native of Inverness, FL and a resident of Tampa for more than 60 years. She was married for 25 years to Jay Maynard Bass who preceded her in death in 1997. She was educated in the Hernando County Schools and dedicated 33 years of her career to Tampa General Hospital as a Licensed Nurse Practitioner. 

She was also preceded in death by: her parents, Clyde Alexander Sr. and Jessie Weaver; son, Thomas L. Bass; brothers, Sandy Weaver, Wyndell Alexander, and Clarence Alexander, and sister, Linda Simmons.

She leaves to cherish her memory: son, Guye Bass (Melva); stepdaughters, Sheila Bass Bryant and Malesta (Jamil) Trotman; stepson, Norris Bass; grandchildren, Jordynn Bass, Jayda Bass, Alecia Spencer (Andrew), Eric Bryant (Felicia), Carla Bryant, and Oscar Bryant (Thembi); siblings, Clyde Alexander Jr. (Claudette) of Madison, FL, Bishop Dr. Douglas (Teresa) Alexander of Hernando, FL, Tommie (Millie) Alexander, Johnell Alexander, Kermit Alexander, Brenda (Wayne) Thomas, and Pearline Alexander all of Inverness, FL, Stephanie (Calvin) Richardson of Beverly Hills, FL , Travis Ford of Madison, FL and Maxine Weaver of Inverness, FL and a host of other sorrowful nieces, nephews, family, friends, and neighbors.

A special thank you to Anita Pierce and her devoted staff team at Ruby’s Residential Facility, who provided exemplary outpouring of love, sincerity, and care for Joanne for more than six years.

At the request of the family, there will not be a public viewing.
