Mrs. Mary Jones Obituary

Deaconess Mary Amica Jones of Tampa, FL passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at New Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2511 E. Columbus Drive, Tampa, FL 33605 with Rev. Larry L. Roundtree II, Officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610.

Mary Amica Jones was born on October 15, 1935, in Newbery, Florida to Aretha Howard and Charlie Baltimore.  She spent most of her growing up days in Williston, FL where she met and married William Jones, Jr.  They ultimately made their home in Tampa, Florida.  Deaconess Jones was a loving wife and mother, always a forward-minded woman who strived to give her family only her best. She did domestic work early on but made educational strives that landed her a job with Honeywell Electronics. She worked many years there until she was disabled in 1995. 

Deaconess Jones and her family joined New Mt. Zion in the early 60’s under the leadership of Reverend W.C. Calhoun.  She loved her church serving as Advisor to the Junior Choir, the Gospel Chorus, Choir #1, Voices of Praise, Food Pantry, Golden Gems, Pastor’s Aide, Senior Women, and the Deaconess Ministries.  She blended her Alto Voice in the Gospel Music Workshop of America-Tampa Chapter as well.  She was a faithful and active member until her health declined. 

She was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband, William Jones, Jr.; first-born child, Gloria J. Stephens; and siblings, Jimmy Amica, Charlie Baltimore, Louis C. Amica, Charlie Amica, and Helen Smith.

Left behind to cherish loving memories of her: her daughters, Jacqueline Jones, and Vivian Jones (Ali Ibrahim); son, Randall Jones (LaTreece); grandchildren, Lloyd Wright (Carla), Vivica Saddler (Steve), Ceilia Mills, Noah Davis (LaToya), and Sylena Escalante; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lottie Edwards of Cocoa, Florida; special friend, Sherryl Fennell; and a host of nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at New Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2511 E. Columbus Drive, Tampa, FL 33605.
