Mrs. Michelle Lavern Hall-Shabazz, a beloved matriarch and treasured pillar of her community, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at the vibrant age of 62 on Sunday, March 15, 2026. A Celebration of Life Service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606, with Pastor James Richardson, Officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610. Michelle Hall-Shabazz was born on December 2, 1963, in Tampa, Florida. She was the only daughter of Clarence McIntosh and the eldest child of Mildred James. Her stepfather, Leroy James, Jr., also played an instrumental role in her upbringing.
Throughout her life, Michelle Hall-Shabazz exemplified love, strength, and compassion. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, friend, coworker, mentor, and neighbor. Her family was always the center of her world, and her warm, welcoming spirit brought comfort and joy to everyone she encountered. With unwavering kindness and a generous heart, she touched countless lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Michelle Hall-Shabazz was preceded in death by: her mother, Mildred James; father, Clarence McIntosh; her baby brother, Leroy James, III; sister, Ratanya James; grandmother, Queen Esther Howard; grandfather, Herman Jackson; grandson, Jeremiah Thomas; mother-in-law, Matrid Shabazz; brother-in-law, Jeremy Shabazz; and soul sister, Shondra Simmons.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories: including her husband, Robert Shabazz; daughters, LaQuinta Hall-Thomas, Mildred Henry (Derrick), and Tatyana Shabazz; grandchildren, Rochelle Hall, Kenneth Thomas, Jr., Derrick Henry, Jr., Faith Thomas, Kendra Thomas, Quentin Thomas, Jayana Lewis, and Royal Kirkland; sisters, Twala Wilson (Robert, Sr.) and Tyneshia James; stepfather, Leroy James, Jr., along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever hold her close in their hearts.
Michelle’s life was a beautiful testament to faith, love, and dedication. Her legacy will continue to live on through the many lives she touched, and her memory will forever inspire those who knew her to love more deeply and live more fully.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
