Mrs. Nita James Obituary

Mrs. Nita Black James of Tampa, FL passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of College Hill, 3838 North 29th Street Tampa, FL 33610, with Senior Pastor Dr. S Evan Burrows, Officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610.

Mrs. Nita Marguerite Black James was born on November 3, 1955, to Andrew and Audrey Black in Tampa, Florida. She attended Potter Elementary and Young Junior High School. She graduated from Hillsborough High School and went further to attend The University of South Florida and was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Mrs. Nita was a kind-hearted, forgiving, caring, sharing and beautiful person inside and out. She was a true gift sent from heaven to this earth and her smile could light up a room. She loved and cared so dearly for her family with all of her heart and supported everyone who knew her. Aside from collecting photos of all her life memories, she truly enjoyed traveling, reading, fishing, dancing, walking on the beach, long drives/riding, boating, and singing in the choir at her church. She was also very meticulous in the way she presented herself when she stepped out of the door. She had to make sure she was well put together for every event. 

She was preceded in death by: her father and mother, Andrew Lee Black and Audrey Linda Black; her special father, Ervin Harris Jr.;  grandmother, Pernetta Tolbert; husband, Nathaneal James; sisters, Linda Black and Brenda Ivey; and aunt, Gwendolyn Simms.

She leaves to cherish memories of her with: her children, Dequan Moody (Sandricka), and Niqua Moody; grandchildren, Hyana Moody- Adkins, Issani Moody-Adkins, Heaven Luke, Sanai Moody, and Dequan Moody Jr.; siblings, Robert Black, Norman Black (Ekrica), Valeria Moultry (Lonnie), Perry Black, Lisa Black (Nicole), Ernest Harris (Karen), Gail Johnson (Greg), Darlene Jordan (Robert), Diane Harrison, and Ervene Bonner; aunts, Gladys Wilson, Mattie Dawson (Ben), and Mildred Fitzpatrick; best friend cousins, Brenda Daniels, Carla Simms Williams, Verlicia Black, Gloria Daniels, Pete Tolbert, Ronnie Tolbert, Diane Tolbert (deceased), Elsie Coleman (deceased), Evelyn Coleman (deceased), Becky Tolbert (deceased); additional relatives, Betty, Vanda, Jake, Shirley, Jan, Tommy, Tyrone, Michael, Pookie, Denise, Roni, Vanessa, and Fran; Best Friends, Kay Wells, Faye Brown (Eddie), Bonnye Taylor, Sharon Williams (Ike), Leslie Johns, Ann Killens, Sandra Reese, Arnita Johnson (CJ), Debbie Fredrick, Josie Hardy, Bo Jackson, and Reggie Hill; good friends, Vivian Chandler, Dorohy Hudspeth, Yolanda McNeil, Carelle Cowen, and Charles Harris; special daughter, Teeyauda Banks (James); son, Princeton Banks; god-granddaughter, Lekecia Freeman and children, Jo’siah Freeman and Kianni Freeman; and a host of step-children, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, associates, and acquaintances, too many to number.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
