Mrs. Rosa Lee Mention Hermitt

A Homegoing Celebration for Sister Rosa Lee Mention Hermitt, who departed this life on Sunday, May 25, 2025, will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist of West Tampa, 1302 N. Willow Ave., Tampa, FL, Rev. Dr. Rayford Harper, Pastor; Rev. Jay L. Jackson, officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 East Hanna Avenue, Tampa, FL.

Rosa Lee Mention Hermitt was born on June 6, 1938, to the late Janie Moore and the late Morosa Mention. She was a native of Tampa and attended Hillsborough County Public Schools. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother, a trusted confidant and an amazing friend to everyone she met. She loved God and was a devoted member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church.

Sister Hermitt was preceded in death by: her husband, Glen Hermitt; two daughters, Cynthia Joyce Altine and Shelia Godfrey; son, Gent Lee Godfrey Jr.; parents, Janie and Morosa Mention; and brother, Walter Mention.

Sister Hermitt leaves to cherish fond memories with: her loving son, James Anderson Jr., of Germany; a devoted daughter, Charlotte Waters of Tampa, FL; two stepsons, Maitland and Marlon Hermitt; stepdaughter, Marlean Hermitt; grandchildren, Kimberly Hemmingway (Rodney), Jacquelyn Chapman, Felecia Causey, Herman Harris, Jr. (Quiana), Warren Bowen, Frederica Ponder, Jackie Chapman, Jr. (Jevonte), Latoya Godfrey, Joshua Powell (Sierra), Tiffany Godfrey, Takeyah Braxton (Tyrell), James Anderson, III, Marlon Hermitt, Jr. and Elijah Hermitt; 35 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; one brother, Major Mention (Willie Mae); special relatives and devoted friends, Robert Moore (uncle), Malethia Lisa Mention (niece), Thomas Mention Sr. (cousin), Barbara Gibson (cousin), Ellen Kinsey (friend), Constance Hill (friend), Juanita Clarke (friend), and Quan and Earl Carlton (neighbors); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Ave., Tampa, FL 33606 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
