Mrs. Ruby Nell Scott Obituary

Ms. Ruby Nell Scott of Tampa, FL, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at 34th Street Church of God, 3000 N. 34th Street, Tampa, FL 33605, Pastor Thomas Scott, Pastor with Pastor Dexter McCree, Associate Pastor of Philadelphia Worship Center, St Petersburg, FL. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610.

Ms. Ruby Nell Scott was born on November 18, 1944. She was the third born out of 7 siblings born to the late Ethel and K.C. Crump. Ms. Ruby attended the public schools in Brookhaven, MS. She traveled to the state of Florida to be with her parents and siblings. In the early 70s, she found work as a housekeeper to help provide for her family. Ms. Ruby found joy in dedicating her time to her children and grandchildren after losing her younger sister. She then adopted her sister’s children, giving them a haven to call home, which is what she cared about. Ms. Ruby was a member of Mt. Calvary Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was employed as a Housekeeper at Tampa Inn for many years, retiring in 1997.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, John Earl Scott; parents, Ethel and K.C. Crump; grandson, Danyel Yashua Smith; great granddaughter, Antronia Gilbert; 2 sisters, Neva Stapleton (Jim) and Johnnie Mae Williams (Lemon); 3 Brothers, L.C. Kelly (Debra), Robert Kelly, and Willie B. Crump; 7 aunts, Alma King, Lucilla Smith, Reba Stewart, Alberta McGee, Bertil Smith, Noni Harris, and Maude Bowman; and 3 uncles, M.C. Williams, Roy Williams, and Otha Williams.

She leaves to cherish her: 6 amazing daughters, Marie Brockington (Tim), Annie Bell Scott, Earline Newman (Michael), Jeanette Whaley Scott, Katherine Scott, and Zermekia Williams; 17 grandchildren, Dontria Harris-Mention, LaZerra Dixon, Leon Dixon Jr. (Jah), Tramine Scott Orlando Fl., Shavonne Scott, Michael Newman Jr. Camp Zama, Japan; Tarel Newman Orlando Fl.; Tevin Newman, Scott Bizzell Jr., Darnell Leggett (Shantel), Breanna Leggett, Zayquan Young, Sai’Raya Smith, Zerquisha Middleton, and Antonio Middleton; 17 great granddaughters, Antria Gilbert, Angelina Gilbert, Alaysia Simpson, Hazel Timmons, Aa’Laiyah Dixon, Da’Niya Morse, Aminah Timmons, Sunni Timmons, Ja’Nylah Scott, Tra’Zyah Scott, Tra’Niece Scott, Tramia Scott, Tearria Green, Shanell Leggett, Za’Kiya Young, Cheyanna Young Colorado; Aaliyah Middleton;  8 great grandsons, Le’Juan Dixon, Markese Odom, Ryan Norton, Darrick Leggett, Terrance Leggett, Darnell Leggett Jr., Mari Leggett, and Jediah Willis Young; adopted nieces and nephews, Amanda Williams (Allen), Vernell Daniels (Carlton), Lemon Williams, and Louis Kelly (Tamesha); Adopted Daughter, Tanna Peeler Starke Fl. and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and close friends.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
