Mrs. Shanika Huggins-Whitney Obituary

Mrs. Shanika R. Huggins-Whitney transitioned peacefully during her sleep on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. Graveside Service will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610.

On February 24, 1986, a Princess was born in Tacoma, Washington, to the late Deacon John Arthur Huggins and Pastor Linda G. Blaylock-Huggins.  Her father lovingly called her “Sweetie” as an honorific for his mother.

Shanika accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Salem M. B. Church in Tampa, Florida.  Because she was a “military brat,” Shanika was educated in school systems around the world.  She graduated, however, from Riverview High School in 2004.  Later, she matriculated at Mars Hill University in Ashville, NC.

Shanika was an Adventurer and an Entrepreneur.  She has traveled the entire United States and many foreign countries.  In addition, she initiated and developed many projects and endeavors.  Big John’s Redemption Ranch is a project that was close to her heart.

She was preceded in death by: her daughter, Angelina Whitney; father, John A. Huggins; aunt, Sheryl Blaylock; uncle, Michael Blaylock; maternal grandparents, Doretha Blaylock and Cle P. Vasquez; and paternal grandparents, Roosevelt and Rosa Huggins.

Shanika leaves to cherish her memories:  a loving and devoted husband, Sterling Whitney; mother, Pastor Linda G. Blaylock-Huggins; siblings, Raynetta Mason (Vincent), Kashi Duckworth (Cedric), Deonte’ Singletery (Sharnette), DeShawnte’ Niles, John A. Huggins, II (Bianca), Jonquavia L.
