Mrs. W Nara Gaines Obituary

Homegoing services for Mrs. W. Nara Gaines, who passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024, will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church, 8119 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Tampa, FL 33619, with Pastor Eugene Garnett, Officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610.

Mrs. Nara Gaines was born November 22, 1932, in Guyton Georgia to the union of Mamie and Elliott Bolden. She was the youngest of 6 children. Nara received her formal education throughout Guyton and graduated from high school in Tampa, FL from Middleton High School.  She married the love of her life, Clarence Gaines on October 24, 1952. To this union 3 children were born (Clarence, Liz, and Alicia).  After many years of traveling with the US Air Force they retired to Tampa, FL in 1973 to begin the next chapter of their lives.

Nara served many years at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church under Rev Dr C.P. Epps.  She worked diligently with the #1 Choir. Nara’s female PHA Masonic order/family affiliations include: Past Worthy Matron of Lola Simon Chapter No. 33 Order of the Eastern Star, Past Commandress of Harram Court No. 96, Daughters and faithful member of Queen Andrews Court No. 38 Heroines of Jericho.  Nara also worked with the county at the polls during election terms for many years.

Nara was a beacon of love and joy, finding immense happiness in cooking, traveling with her husband and spending time with her family, extended family, and dearest friends.

Nara is preceded in death by: her parents, Mamie and Elliott Bolden; brothers, Raymond Bolden and Willis Bolden; and sisters, Marion Everett, Maggie Williams, and Mamie Whitehead.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories to be forever held in the hearts of: her loving husband, Clarence Gaines of Tampa, Fl; son, Clarence Gaines, Jr. (Brenda) of Crestview Fl; daughters, Nara (Liz) Gray (Don), and Alicia Haynes (Michael) of Tampa, Fl; grandsons, Michael Gaines, Nathanael Gaines of Severn MD, Donta Gaines (Sabrina) of Crestview Fl, Dominique Gaines (Meafou) of Fayetteville NC, and Dwan Gaines of Crestview Fl; granddaughters, LaVonya Sanborn (Brian) of Severn MD, Tynisa Gaines of Dallas TX, Delicia Seymore of Tampa Fl, LaTasha Gaines of Crestview Fl, and Shontelle Seymore of Tampa Fl; great-grandsons, Brian Sanborn (Alexis) of Ft. Walton Bch Fl, Brice Sanborn (Melisa) of Severn MD, Nathanael Gaines, Jr. (Carmen) of Killeen TX,  James Jones of Tampa Fl, and Carlton McCullah of Crestview Fl; great-granddaughters, Valesia Gaines of Junction City KS, Aaylia Gaines of Crestview Fl, Nara Gaines of Fayetteville NC, Layla Gaines of Crestview Fl, and Nandi Gaines of Fayetteville NC; brother- in- laws, Billy Singletary, and Earl Luckey of Tampa Fl; sister-in-laws, Alberta Ellison and Betty Bolden of Tampa Fl; Extended family, Goddaughters, Rosemary-Pennington Wright (Jim) of Urbana IL, Veronica Williams (Lanier) of Atlanta Ga, Lori LaFayette (Michael) of Tampa Fl, Padrica Jackson of Tampa Fl, and Tonetta Heath of Dayton OH; Godsisters, Ethel Hayes and Mattie White of Tampa Fl; good friends, Hattie Byrd and Verna Jordan of Tampa, FL; Additionally, she is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, Masonic Family and endearing friends who will fondly remember the warmth and kindness she shared throughout her remarkable life.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024, 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
