Ms. Anita Chatman Obituary

Ms. Anita Regina Chatman of Tampa, Florida, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2026.  Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Tampa Life Church, 10930 US Highway 301 North, Thonotosassa, FL 33592, with Pastor Robert Tisdale, Officiating.

Anita, born on December 20, 1953, in Miami, Florida, was one of four children of Alicia Mercedes Escalante and Isham Pope.  She built a fulfilling life in Tampa, Florida and was a resident for 62 years, where she lovingly raised her two children. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

She retired from Nation’s Bank and her career concluded as a Teacher’s Assistant with the Hillsborough County School District at Twin Lakes Elementary, where she was known for her kindness, compassion, and unwavering commitment to her students.

Outside of her profession, Anita found immense joy in creating cherished memories for her loved ones. She had a special gift for hosting gatherings, caring for animals, and making every celebration feel meaningful and full of warmth. Her home became a haven of comfort and happiness for all who entered. Above all, she cherished the precious moments spent with her family and loved ones.

Anita leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Leroy Chatman II (Rasheedah); her daughter, Sofia Cowart; her brothers, Martin “Mickey” (Jennifer), Percy, and Rudy; her grandchildren, Christian Chatman (Lorena), Myles Cowart, Jesenia Chatman, and Ethan Chatman; and her great-grandson, Kairo Chatman. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, neighbors, extended family members, and loved ones whose lives were touched by her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love.
